The curious case of 'Bath Towel'

The curious case of 'Bath Towel'

Hi humans! I know I don’t need any introduction. I am the most helpful companion in your world, yet perhaps the most lonely one too. I am your humble bath towel.

You see, my life is a cycle of sacrifice. Humans use me daily and then hang me out to dry. Do you realize how cruel that feels? After helping you, I am left hanging on a rope. And when you dry me in direct sunlight, it feels too hot!

Sometimes, you use me to wipe away your sweat, and honestly, it makes me feel like vomiting. The worst thing is on rainy days because I can’t be dried, and an awful smell comes from me, which even I don’t like. Sometimes humans carelessly put me on hooks or chairs, and because of this, ants come and bite me it’s very painful.

I am also frequently used by human females to rub and dry their long hair. That’s when the real problem begins. Sometimes, I feel like I am being attacked by head lice. When their heads start itching, they scratch their scalps, and occasionally, they even scratch me while drying. It’s an exhausting job, but I feel more relieved with females because they handle me better than males, who just toss me on the rope and forget me.

But the worst part isn’t the lice or the sweat, it’s being mocked by other clothes. The shirts and pants mock me, saying, “You are just in bathrooms. Humans never take you outside or show you off to the world.” It hurts, but then I look at the human’s favourite pair of jeans and feel a wave of relief. At least I get washed sometimes!

I once told the jeans, “Hey, you should try taking a bath once in a decade before you come and mock me” That shut him up quickly. But my only relief is my friend soap, which humans use to clean them. We are very good friends. We do the same thing that is clean humans and we speak when humans are bathing and have fun.

Nowadays, I have started mocking other clothes back. I tell the fancy shirts, “You are just for show. I am the one humans reach for in their most vulnerable moments.” Whether I am being tied around a head like a turban or used as a cleaning mask during house cleaning to block the dust, I am versatile.

I know that even when I grow old and you eventually use me as a waste cloth for cleaning floors, I will still be more useful than a shirt that’s out of fashion. I have realized my worth, and now I mock them all back.
