Summer Vacation

She is a chubby girl, with brown eyes, curly hair, who lives in a serene village, with her parents. She is the only child of that loving couple.

Her name is Sarah, 6 years old. As a single child, she gets all love, care and affection of her parents. Many times, Sarah has told her mom that she feels lonely and wants a companion to play with.

Sarah is very naughty at school. Her teacher complains about Sarah to her mother. Even though she is impish, she is brilliant in academics and sports. She loves to play badminton. After she returns from school, she will play with her neighbors’ children.

Sarah feels exultant during her summer vacations. Because her house will be filled by her cousins. They play kho-kho, running race, hide and seek, climbing trees, carom and so on.

Every year, Sarah will be waiting for those 10 days. They will go to the paddy fields, remove small weeds off and plant saplings around the paddy fields. They will play in the knee-deep pond.

One day, she is playing with her cousins in front of her neighbor's house. An old man, who is septuagenarian, calls Sarah inside his home. She likes that old man because he gives chocolates to her.

Sarah is wearing a red-colour frock. She looks gorgeous in that frock. The old man calls Sarah and tells her to sit on his lap. The old man touches her legs, thighs, cheeks and hands. She feels uncomfortable. The old man tries to molest her. She is an innocent child. She cannot understand what he is doing.

The old man misuses her and tells her not to reveal about it to anyone. On that night, Sarah falls sick. She has got fever and feels the pain in her private parts. Sarah opens up everything that happened in that old man’s house to her mother.

Sarah’s mother handles it intelligently. Even though she is a village woman, she is a literate and doesn’t react aggressively for this issue. If she talks back, then, the life of her child will be in trouble. Instead, she teaches her child about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’ and how, what she has to do, when she comes across such situations.

“Dear Parents, teach your kids, how should they have to behave to the strangers?"
