STOP SMOKING

Once near about one decade ago there was a rich merchant named John. His wife was a doctor. They had one daughter and one son. When John remained busy in his business, doctor Flora took care of her clinic as well as children. Older daughter Rima was also helping her mother in domestic works and loves her younger brother Litu often with utmost care. They were town dwellers having exorbitant wealth and property. Their family was a happy one. John also was a noble and benevolent young man, well reputed in his area.


But it was a negative quality of Mr. John was that he started smoking behind the sight of his parents while reading in High School as he fell into the trap of some of his smoker friends. While he joined College gradually he increased the number of cigarettes per day. Time moved on like the wheel. Mr. John completed PG in chemistry. Then he completed MBA by the support of his parents. His father, a baron, provided him with all comforts including pocket money. Then John married and chose business as his profession.


Now being a well reputed and successful business man he devoted most of his time in business affairs. In this way he overlooked his health. To be relaxed from tension he smoked more and more and eventually he turned a chain-smoker. Everyday Mr John was consuming 12 packets of 555. At that time his parents were no more. His wife daughter and son, kith and kins, non- smoker friends persuaded him to give up smoking but their efforts were in vain. His wife suggested him to take a cup of tea while he felt urging of tobacco. He increased smoking day by day. In this way a few years passed away. One night while sleeping at home John felt some trouble in his heart and wake up Flora, his wife. She checked his chest with her stethoscope and carried him to the nearby hospital. Thorough medical check up was performed. As a result it was known that Mr. John was suffering from lungs cancer and the lungs were full of 90 percent of tars. Then he was hospitalised for a month and taking medicine and injection regularly. Being somewhat sound he returned home. He became so much emotional towards his children and wife that every night he was lifting his little son over his head up down. His 8 years old daughter Rima was just given an emotional kiss on his forehead.


Human life is full shade and light. The cancer specialist declared Mr John's expiry date within 15 months. In the meantime he enlisted all immovable and movable properties in his wife's name. At the fag end of his life he repented seriously and practically knew that " Smoking is injurious to health". He was a great family lover. Hence prior to his death he built a monumental statues made of marble which symbolized himself, his loving daughter Rima standing behind and touching the banian, playing catch and throw by using Litu his beloved five years old son like a ball. Especially a lengthy filter-tipped cigarette measuring nearabout five metres long made of marble. This also include filtered end, butts and it's burnt ash with a spark of fire underneath. The entire cigarette and the statues thereon is the central them of the story which reveals that a cigarette may be of few inches but it's harmful effect on human beings is tremendous. The bad habit like smoking can make a monitary poor man below the line of poverty, a pauper and minimise one's longevity. Any cigarette either plain or filtered is death giving. One may be poor or rich they are called human beings. All smokers one day may go to the grave yards, undoubtedly earlier than the non-smokers. Premature death is more inevitable for a chains-smoker. Rich man may squander extravagantly on smoking cigarettes because he can last some days more than a poor man by the strength of Money. The poor man may smoke Bidi and turns chains smoker he may be short lived. After all Smoking, may bidi, cigarette, cigar, churut etc. nothing is favourable to health. So everybody should quit smoking immediately if he or she is addicted.
