Squirrel And A Nut Case
Squirrel And A Nut Case
As a writer, I always 'harp'ed to myself that I should write one book as good as 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'. The story goes that Ms Harper Lee wrote 'Go set a watchman' as her first book and the publisher wanted her to rewrite that book. Instead, she wrote her second book and rest is history as they say. She proved the adage that a bird in hand (even though it is the mocking species) is worth two in the bush. You may mock my desire to imitate Lee. But as the other Lee (Bruce) opines that he fears the man who has practised one kick 10,000 times. in short, practise makes ’ perfection.’ Here I am honing my words like the blacksmith and a book is definitely on the anvil. You have the final choice to mock or mark my words then.
I don’t have powers to advance ‘Book’er my Prize nor I can Pullit(zer) to my side. I have the noble intention of earning my prize through ‘creatiwitty’ and perseverance. Like the Conon Doyle who became an author after giving up his medical practice, I too have given up on my profession and is now trying to become another one such. I must confess here that I am yet to ’ home’ on the plot of my book. N
or can I ask my child, What son? as I have a daughter. You need to remember one thing I am named as Ganapathy Raju for nothing. For those who don’t know the significance, it was Ganapathy who wrote down Mahabharata as Vyasa recited it. Of course, you can squabble with me saying that Ganapathy didn’t create, but I rather we scrabble over a board which will help me with word building.
I am ‘earnest’ and would not be ‘hem’med’ in’ my ‘way’ and I am neither too old nor at sea with words. Like the Japanese writer Murakami who developed a yen for writing and running, I too have run a half marathon and preparing for one with words and miles to go before I sleep. Unlike Jeffrey Archer, I don’t have A Quiver Full of Arrows but like him, I too have a clear aim as a writer.
I only hope that I would not end up howling in my defeat, unlike the JK Rowling who plotted many a Potter series and has now pot full of pounds. Of course, hers was a story of bedtime and as Dickens began it may be best of times and the worst of times in my case. Come what may I shall squirrel though my way so that I don’t remain a nut case.
