Diwali Dhamaka

The glittering, shimmering lights brought about astonishment in those two eyes. It was Diwali, and the roads seemed to be lit up with miniature stars hung around every shop. Everywhere fancy objects were luring him. While some shops were selling toys, some clothes, some crackers and other sweets. But Ishan knew that he could only feast his eyes with them. His pockets were empty, so was his stomach. But he managed to console himself by imagining himself in a royal palace with endless food supplies. Suddenly, widespread chaos began. A sudden shatter of glass, voices crying "Thief ! Thief !Stop!" and the sound of police jeep's siren. All of this amazed him, and he trailed behind to watch the scene. Being so small, he was not able to view the scene. Disappointed, he returned. After an hour of waiting, he finally got to know that the thief had escaped without leaving any clue. All the CCTV footages had been deleted and the siren wires had been cut. Ornaments worth rupees 10 lakh had been stolen. The police had also issued a notice saying, "Anyone who manages to catch the thief shall be handsomely rewarded."

Ishan thought that he would go over to the shop and try to look out for the thief. He went over to the window and began searching for any mistakes the thief would have made during his escapade. The window had a very big hole in it, which was where the thief had escaped from. He began searching for any items dropped around the hole when it suddenly struck him that thought the hole was very big, it would be practically impossible for a well-built adult to pass through the hole without bruising himself. Yet, there were no bloodstains on the glass. Also, the glass pieces were majorly spread inside the shop, not outside. If the robber had tried to escape through the window, then he would have thrown an object towards the window from inside, which would've made the glass fall outside. All this made Ishan think that the robber had not escaped from the window but through another way. He had gone out, and then made a hole through the window, just to mislead the police. Ishan then found out that there were just two entrances and one window in the small gold shop. He went to the grief-stricken owner and requested the owner to allow him to inspect the backyard. The owner refused and threatened to chase Ishan away. Ishan immediately went to the police and quickly conveyed all his findings to them. After a few enquiries and investigations, they found that the owner's son had made a duplicated key to the back door, had broken in by cutting the sire wires, erased the CCTV footages, left through the back door, thrown a stone from outside to make it look as though he had escaped from the window to avoid being caught. He was arrested soon after this confession.

The police, true to their word, awarded Ishan a handsome price of rupees 50,000. Ishan was pleasantly startled, thanked the police vigorously, and ran home as fast as he could to show the crisp cheque to his mother.

(I am really sorry for the mistake in the cover page.)
