One Positive Thought
One Positive Thought
Today, after a 2 hour wait at the hospital, I walked into the covid vaccination room - clearly consumed by fear, anxiety, doubts. Just like everybody around me I too waited for my slot. When the time came to get vaccinated, I seemed to be not so ready at all.
When the kind nurse asked me if I was doing okay, I openly shared my fears over the after effects of the vaccination.
What if I fell ill? What if my body ached? What if I have a severe headache?
" It is normal. The side effects are all normal. One can only take precautions and be positive. Getting vaccinated is important and you should not have second thoughts about it."
The nurse had a rather simple yet assuring answer.
She told me that, every time I feared something negative would happen out of any initiative in life including vaccination, it makes sense to immediately visualize something positive that could happen through the initiative. Rather than running away from a negative thought which might seem impossible, she encouraged me to instead replace it with a positive thought.
"Like in this case - vaccination saves your life and you get to enjoy a happy time with family!" "Visualize a happy moment with family, please!"
I not only closed my eyes and actually visualized a family moment but also felt a sense of gratitude that I was able to get vaccinated - for many it is still a long way to go.
A sincere sense of gratitude and a positive visualization for a minute changed a lot in my head and in my body.
The nurse then winked at me and hinted that I was vaccinated and may leave. She wished me the very best.
Ever since I got home, I have been thinking of this simple exercise - everytime a negative thought claims a spot in my head, how about visualizing a positive thought immediately! Even if it is not the easiest thing to do.
I am definitely going to try. Will you?
