Nightmares of the Past

Nightmares of the Past

A nightmare pulled me out of a dead slumber that seemed to go on forever. I saw things that I hoped I would never have to see again. I saw fully dilated eyes that were as black as the night sky. I saw savages, stumbling around and slipping on the sweat that dripped from their bodies. My life was in danger and I was lost in my own dream. They were sitting in the corner and I could hear them whispering and planning my demise. The lights went out, my mind went black, and I could no longer see my own two feet.

I was breathing the same stagnant air as my enemies and I could not find a way out of the chaos and terror that surrounded me. Monsters were viciously pursuing me and I knew that I had to find a way out before it was too late. I kicked and I swung and I scrapped for my life. I was then pulled back into reality in the midst of all the commotion and I was soaked in a cold sweat.

I went into the bathroom where I washed myself off and took the 3 deepest breaths of my life. The first reminded me of who I once was and no longer have to be, the second brought me back to who I am today, and the third gave me perspective of who I am destined to become. I knew that this dark chapter of my life was closed, and I took comfort in the peace that I am now surrounded with.
