My face burn: True story!
My face burn: True story!
I stood there holding my firecracker which was in the shape of a gun, as it flowed forward like a beautiful flower blooming upwards to meet the sun. I let myself take a deep breath as the smoke stung my nostrils. I looked deep into the light as suddenly, the blazing cracker in my hand back-fired. I fell down hard on the concrete floor with a huge THUD ,my hands forcefully falling on either side of my body, against the ground. I felt a provoking pain in my face and hands as though being stung by hundreds of bees.
I could taste the sandy air while it went into my mouth. I felt a hand on my arm and the crying voice of my mum “Rithisha wake up darling, open your eyes you are going to be fine, dad has gone to take water” I tried opening my stiffly shut eyes as I heard my brother wailing my name, from not far away. My heartbeat paced through my body, making my veins bulge from my skin. When I opened my eyes, my eyelid felt as though being pricked by thousands of needles as I saw my dad, rushing to me with a bucket of cold water.
As he poured it over me, I felt smoke depart from me, like a raging fire was being put out on my aching face as it tightened its muscles, making me wanna let out a little whimper in the pain. I stood up as my dad rushingly carried me down the stairs, my mum dashing back with a plate of ice. I dipped my burnt face into the ice as I felt no coolness but only still the heat burning through my throbbing veins. I sensed the shivering water go down my throat into my hollow stomach. It felt like thousands of pins were quivering through my skin into my bone as my Mum and Dad never let go of me from their comforting hug!
Now: Since then, I realised I could never forget the burn even if my scars disappeared, I remember it like yesterday…
