Love Donor

On a corner bench with other patients, Tapas is waiting for a doctor's call in Dr Malhotra's private nursing home. He is not a patient. He has come to get his medical reports checked by the doctor. He has been visiting Dr Malhotra for almost four months with the only proposal that the doctor did not give permission. He spent many sleepless nights standing near the doctor's bungalow. After his several attempts at the request, the doctor conceded finally. Tapas is delighted every happy today. He seems to have got the opportunity that he was looking for for a long time. He is eagerly waiting for his turn to come. Finally, after almost two hours, his name is announced openly. He walks to a small cabin where Dr Malhotra is sitting on a chair.

Dr Malhotra indicates him to sit on an opposite chair. Tapas sits and submits all his medical reports. The doctor checks his report and says, "Reports are ok ok".

Tapas feels relieved. He smiles at the doctor, "Thank you".

"Are you sure? This is the last time I am asking. After that, I can't help you. Please think again". Doctor asks him.

Tapas reminisces about his past. It seems that an old negative film strip passes through his eyesight.

Tapas was a very genius student from his childhood. When he was admitted into a new school in class five, he met with Ruksana. Gradually, they became good friends. In class nine, Tapas fell in love with her. He tried to propose to her on different school occasions but could not get the courage in fear of losing the friendship. From friends, they became best friends. Tapas shared everything with her except his affection for her.

On the Saraswati Puja day when they were in class twelve, Tapas determined to propose to Ruksana. He looked for her in every classroom of the school but did not find her. He noticed her at the school entrance. She entered school wearing a yellow coloured saree which he had gifted on her birthday. Tapas, being excited, took her in an empty classroom to express his love. They both gasped because of the long run.

"I want to say something," Tapas gasped.

"Me too, " Ruksana also seemed excited. 

Tapas paused, and Ruksana explained to him how she was proposed by his neighbour Kabir today. She even informed him that they were going on a date after school. Tapas smiled at her, but he was shattered from inside. Ruksana left him behind to be with other friends. Tapas could not speak for a few minutes, only silently watched his love life go away from him. He cried, punched his hand on a wall, made himself calm and returned home. 

For almost one month, he did not attend school. Ruksana called him numerous times, but he did not pick up her phone. Ruksana never came to his house as she had no idea about his residential address. Only he knew Ruksana's resident. A few of his friends knew his address but Tapas prohibited them to let Ruksana know.

After one month, when Tapas arrived at school for the H.S registration, he came across Ruksana. On asking for not picking up her calls by Ruksana, Tapas replied to her that he was busy with H.S preparation. Ruksana started to explain her love story with Kabir and Tapas listened to that silently. He only looked at her face, expression. He promised himself to love her one-sided for the rest of his life. He reacted normally.

After the H.S exam, Tapas was remembering the happy moments between him and Ruksana. At that moment, he got a call from Ruksana. She told him that she was getting married to Kabir in a month. She invited him over the phone. Tapas pretended to be happy after knowing the news. He did not attend their wedding. He cried the whole night.

After the incident, Tapas became completely different. He became introverted. He could not talk to his parents. He even denied meeting his school friends. Seeing his behaviour, his parents took him to a psychiatrist. Although Tapas opposed visiting the doctor but he had to go when his mother insisted. Her mother coerced him saying that she would kill herself if he did not agree to visit the doctor. The famous psychiatrist examined him and initiated his treatment.

Almost for two years, he was treated with medicines so that he could get out of his trauma. In between, he attempted suicide several times but was caught by his parents. His appearance changed to be a mad man.

Finally, after two years, he came to be normal. He started to study again and completed his graduation. After graduation, he got a job in a private company. The owner of the company was his father's best friend. He also helped Tapas to revive his life. Everything seemed to be normal by Tapas's parents but Tapas still could not forget Ruksana. She would appear in his dream. Tapas could not sleep at night. He hid his anxiety from everyone.

Almost six months passed. One day, while returning home from his new job, Tapas saw on his mobile that one of his school friend was calling him. He received the call. Their common friend informed him that in a terrible car accident, Kabir died and Ruksana got admitted into Dr Malhotra's private nursing home. She lost her eyesight. Even her one kidney got damaged. A donor is needed for kidney and eyes.

"I am ready to donate my one kidney and two eyes for her. However, never mention my name neither to Ruksana nor to her family members". Tapas replies to Dr Malhotra's query. 

He signs some papers. Within a few minutes, a nurse takes him to the operation theatre. Ruksana is also brought senseless to the operation theatre. Tapas looks at her for the last time. He knew he will not be able to see her love life forever. He kisses her eyes. Tears roll down his eyes. After an hour, the transplanting operation starts. It continues for more than three hours.

A nurse runs to Ruksana's family to inform them the operation is successful.
