This is the story of the post Kurukshetra battle. God Krishna had become the most popular king of Dwarka then. Being a king, Krishna made every effort to please his subjects. But for a few days, Krishna noticed that his charioteer, Uddhava, was somewhat worried about something. Krishna understood that he had some queries to ask. One day, Krishna called him and inquired of what Uddhava wanted to know. At first, Uddhava was hesitant to ask him because firstly he was his master, he was afraid of losing his job and secondly, he was the king. But Krishna permitted him to know all his queries without any hesitation.

In reply, Uddhava asked some precious questions to God that will enlighten our lives if we listen to those questions and explanations of God.

Uddhava: Hey lord! You were a good friend of Pandavas. They always relied on you. You have the power to sense the past, present, and future. Why didn't you stop Yudhishtira to play the dice yet? If you wanted you could make them win the game. But why didn't you do that? When Yudhishtira staked Draupadi in the game, why didn't you enter the court to save her? You interfered at the end when Draupadi was being disrobed by Dushasana. Couldn't you arrive early to save Pandavas from humiliation? Do you believe that you performed your duty well?

Krishna: My dear Uddhava, conscience always wins. This is natural. That time, Duryodhana had conscience but Yudhishtira hadn't. Duryodhana did not know how to play the dice so he gave Shakuni the responsibility but Yudhishtira never wanted my help in the game. You can imagine who could have won the game if I had played against Shakuni. Moreover, Yudhishtira never wanted me to see him play this game. So he requested me not to enter the court unless called. I was eagerly waiting for any call from the Pandavas but they blamed their luck instead of requesting me to intervene. They forgot me when Draupadi was dragged into the court and disrobed. I got the chance to help them at the very moment when Draupadi remembered my help. Hey Uddhava! Now you decide what my fault was.

Uddhava: You are right. But my mind is still disturbed. May I ask you one more question?

God Krishna granted to ask his next question.

Uddhava: It's clear in your speech that you will help them when somebody requests your help. Won't you help any of your devotees deliberately if not requested?

Krishna: In this world, a person's life depends on his karma. I never interfere in this process. I am merely a witness. I observe what's going on around you. This is the duty of God. God always stays near you.

Uddhava: It means you will witness all our misdeeds. Won't you rectify our misdeeds? Do you want us continuously commit sins?

Krishna: Hey Uddhava! Try to understand the significance of my words. If someone realizes that I am staying near him or her, will the person commit anymore sin? When people think they can do anything without my absence then they commit sins. Yudhishtira had the same idea so he lost the game.

Uddhava: I'm very clear after your conversation. If people realize that even a leaf cannot move without God, they will never dare to commit misdeeds.
