Late Night Talks
Julie confessed," That she had never done that as she was raised the old fashioned way." Maria was explaining, "Love was her distant friend from the past." They were busy in the swimming pool late at night with their drinks having those random talks. Mauren said," She never understood the feeling of being in love." Meanwhile, Mia asked them whether she could join them in the pool. They wanted to know what exactly was Mia's profession. Mia went onto say," Well, you can call me a Zumba instructor, an event manager, and as well a fashion model." Mauren asked Mia, "When was her first class at Zumba".Mia replied that the first batch started in the morning at 5 am. After having their drinks others left while Julie and Mia remained in the pool. Julie waited for her thoughts to pacify. Being raised up in a patriarchal setup had made her devoid of childhood what kids of her age would have enjoyed with adventures and entertainments. She had never felt that emotion before but now it battled her morale.
The thought of being conscious of the ideals that were a part of her upbringing burdened her. She felt heavy and the evening when he came up proposing to her asking her hand for marriage, she felt grounded unable to speak. Mia broke the silence," Advent of globalization had fragmented us into nuclear families bandwagoning materialistic pleasures. In the process, we lose valuable relationships, like that of our family who toiled for us sparing their bread." She continued," Being alone and independent are different. It might sound adventurous to live alone, leaving behind our families but experience has proved me wrong. It is hard when you are valued just as a mere existence with none to ask you what you like or what you want. Life is about sharing and bonding. It involves mutual understanding and people who know right through you in and out. People who encourage you time and again never letting you down. The choice is yours too whether set out a balance between your family and your personal choices or to forget the past and move on with personal choices." Mia walked out of the pool leaving Julie alone to think. Julie understood the need to make her family know about her love and set out a balance maintaining the relationships even.
