Here's To The Sun God

Here's To The Sun God

For as long as I can remember, my parents have followed a proper morning routine with care and diligence. It is so inspiring that my sister and I have incorporated so many powerful habits into our own routines.

As an integral part of the ritual, my parents bow down to Lord Surya - the Sun God. They offer their prayers of gratitude for blessing us and sustaining life. Although I too do it on the occasion of Rathasapthami- a festival dedicated to Surya Lord, I never did it every single day.

Given the devastating circumstances that we are all in and the profound impact that Covid has had on all of us, many truths have dawned upon me.

It is no more about you and me but Humanity as a whole. The irreplaceable losses, pain and suffering; the battle for lives/hospital beds/oxygen is really a joint fight to ward off the evil Corona. We may not be connected by blood or bond yet we feel a deep connection to what we all go through as a country and as Humanity. We can only be together on this journey.

Amidst all these thoughts, what also occurred to me is why my parents have always been so grateful for the life we have. Hence, for several weeks I too have been following my routine of gratitude prayer to Lord Surya and Mother Nature.

I am immensely thankful to be alive and healthy. I am very grateful for the life and health of my parents, sister, my family and friends. I pray for the well being of us as a Global Community.

The positive vibrations that the feeling of gratitude induced in me can never be explained in mere words. Honestly, it has been experienced and understood.
