It was the first month of 2020, January, full of energy and enthusiasm. We sat down with our headmistress to make the plan for our kindergarteners. All the programs had to be designed well involving all our children starting from invitation to parents to seeing off our children.

Our headmistress had planned it so well, and it was briefed to the team leads too, who in turn sat with their teachers and had started planning for the stage decorations along with the art department head. Children were divided in each group to perform different programs and teachers were allotted for the same too. The practice began in the last half of January as the graduation day was scheduled in the month of February.

Individual photos of children were taken in graduation gowns and graduation certificates were also written. Graduation Invite was prepared too. Children were happy to be involved in different activities along with their teachers. The children wouldn't even miss a single day to school as they were so much involved in the programs for graduation day.

Count down had begun for graduation day and we were waiting for the vendor on that day who was supposed to deliver the new graduation gowns.

The clerk came running and handed over a paper to our headmistress. It was from our academic director sir, which came as a shock to us. Our headmistress read out that Government had announced lockdown for the entire country because of pandemic Covid situation because of which school would be closed for an uncertain period of time from tomorrow. All teachers were dumbstruck. Time was ticking away. They had 45 minutes on hand. They couldn't digest the fact that, that day would be the last to see their children. Some had started crying, they rushed to washroom. Some rushed to their classes, but to their dismay, they couldn't even hug or shake hands with the tiny tots as they had to follow the instructions from the school authority though it was apt for everyone, the teachers felt heart wrenching when kids asked for the hugs and shake hands. Hardly did the kids know that, that was going to be their last working day.

One of the teachers sat heavily on the chair, and had to control herself from crying as children had started to come near her. She literally had to push away all the kids and with the time that was left with her, she could only advice kids to listen to their parents and to stay at home and wear masks whenever they would go out of their homes.

The kids were confused with their teacher's behavior. Everyday the same teacher would give them the motherly feeling, but today she was talking something, which went beyond their understanding. Well, her heart skipped a beat when she saw the clock, it was time to leave children to the bus bay. She wound up the class with a quick prayer and surprisingly hurried the kids up to bus bay. She left the kids to their buses and one last time, wanted to look at her children in the bus. There was this child who was always labelled as a slow learner from his parents, he just came running towards the teacher and hugged her from behind. That was enough for this teacher to cry her heart out, but nope she had to contain herself. She hugged him tightly and lifted him and dropped him to his bus.

Without looking back, she just walked towards her class, but then had to turn back when the boy called out her name one last time, ma'am.........
