By Chance

When I was in high school I fell in love with a boy who was infamous for his shenanigans and rowdy demeanor.

We used to be at loggerheads with each other. Always quarreling over silly things and finding ways to put each other in trouble.

One day I got so frustrated that I decided to put an end to the daily squabbles and take the high road. Little did I know that I would end up falling in love with him.

You see it all started with a lie. I used to note down his name and the activities he does in class in my diary just to find ways to make his life miserable.

When his friend found my diary she interpreted it completely wrong. She thought that I was in love with that pig. I couldn't say no when she asked me because then it would have been really creepy more like serial killer stuff.

After that mortifying revelation, the boy started hating me. He felt that I was faking love just to tease him and embarrassed with all of this he lashed out on me so badly and was on the verge of hitting me.

Years later we met again. Now grown up with a college degree hunting for jobs in the same city. We went out for coffee and just clicked. We relived our school days laughing about all the stupidities and confessing all the evil plans we had hatched against each other.

Turns out we had a lot in common but were too egoistic too even give us a chance. I think we became friends there over that coffee.

Today as I walked down the aisle to stand by his side and say 'I do' a thousand thoughts ran through my head like a movie. It was a chance we took and it was a chance that was given to us many times but we overlooked.

Maybe it was the baby inside me that led to this day. Two months pregnant we decided to settle down. To give a chance to what could be a beautiful family. Years later when we look back it may or may not seem like a mistake but we sure want to be in the position to just reflect about it.
