Holding her cup of hot tea, Mili emerged from the kitchen and headed to the balcony, her favourite place in the house. The balcony faced the society garden, which was perfectly manicured and maintained beautifully by the management. She had enclosed her balcony with a simple and elegant sunroof with delicately slender climbers and creepers embellishing it to bring the in greenery. Varieties of palms, shrubs and flowering plants were potted neatly in fancy planters of all shapes and sizes, fitted and arranged thoughtfully like a rubrics cube. No wonder, tiny birds and sparrows, colourful butterflies were always seen fluttering there as loved guests, while some had made it a home by nesting in the little corners. Mili simply adored the little eco-system she had made in here.

Spending time here filled her with energy and gave her peace and serenity. As she relaxed there, sipping her evening tea, gazing at her plants, as if talking to them, she reminisced ….five years ago when she and Nitin had moved into this house in spring. She was a full-time journalist then. They both had planned to go the family way, once they had a house of their own. Waiting and trying for months, Mili was on the verge of a mental breakdown and had quit her job too. “The job will keep you busy,” Nitin would say, but Mili thought because of her stressful workload, she was not conceiving. She tried switching jobs, which didn’t happen.

There she was at home, trying to have a baby and looking for a less demanding job simultaneously. Months passed, giving way to over a year. She would stand in the balcony, looking at the gardeners tending to the plants, down in the society garden. This inspired her and she dedicated herself in turning the balcony into her green heavenly paradise. She read and learnt about the plants, selected and bought in the varieties, nurtured and cared for them all through the fall and winter, which kept her happily busy and occupied. And when spring arrived, her balcony had transformed in to this little paradise she had dreamed and toiled for.

Seeing the blooming buds take the shape of gorgeously vibrant blossoming flowers, gave her extreme delight! And her delight had no multitude when she learnt that she had finally conceived! The harsh winter of her life had given way to spring! Her little garden had finally bloomed, bringing joy in her life! “There you are ,” Nitin walked in to break her chain of thoughts. Mili turned to hold baby Tanya and kissed her little blooming blossom in the lovely garden of her paradise!
