After 10 Years

The Watson family as everybody knew was quite rich and down to earth. They were one of the richest families in the town. The house was big and beautiful. The family portraits were nicely decorated with gold and each and everything was just perfect. The floor was as white as snow.

James Watson, the head of the family was the CEO of a very reputed company. He lived with his parents, wife, and one daughter. No matter how rich and well-reputed they were, the whole town believed that the first daughter of the Watson family died. Money cannot buy happiness and it was true in the case of the Watson family as they always felt the absence of their elder daughter.

One fine day, Mrs. Watson was returning home from some important work. She noticed the small little girl sitting on the road begging for food. The little girl was dirty and clumsy in appearance. The fact that she was hungry was evident from her face. Mrs. Watson moved towards her.

“Where are your parents?”, said Mrs. Watson.

“I am an orphan. I don’t have parents. All I want is some food. Do you have some? I am really hungry,” replied the poor girl.

The teary eyes of the girl seemed to be genuine to Mrs. Watson.

“What is your name?”, asked Mrs. Watson.

“I don’t have any name either. Please give me some food to eat.”

Mrs. Watson, wasting no time anymore, wished to take the girl with her. The little girl at first was scared and refused but Mrs. Watson assured her that she was safe and there was nothing to worry.

The girl was welcomed warmly and was also served delicious food immediately. It is rare that rich people are kind. The family had a discussion among themselves and they decided to adopt the little girl. They named the girl Lucy.

The Watson family didn't hesitate before admitting Lucy to the school. She never went to school and so she had to start her nursery class at the age of 13. It was first very odd for her because she was the only ‘big’ one in class. But she made friends by and by.

One day so happened that the Watson family went for a family picnic. They obviously included Lucy in their group. Lucy and the younger daughter of Watson’s, Bella had fun together. They ran all over and played many things.

“I never thought Bella would connect with an outsider so well,’’ said Mr. Watson

“Yes. Lucy has become very close to us,” replied Mrs. Watson happily.

Suddenly while running so fast Lucy fell down and cut her feet. Both Mr. Watson and Mrs. Watson were worried and hurried to her. Lucy started sobbing and Bella tried to console her.

While everyone was busy bandaging her leg, Mrs. Watson saw a strange mark on her left leg. A mark that was very well known to the family.

“Does that mark remind you of something?”, said Mrs. Watson in a shaky voice.

“Emma, Emma, Emma had this mark. Yes, Yes on her left leg.” cried Mr. Watson.

“So is this OUR Emma?”, cried both of them.

Lucy was shocked and confused as to what was happening. “We have to conduct the DNA test as soon as possible,” said James Watson. By God’s grace, the test proved that Lucy is their first daughter. Lucy is Emma.

The Watsons were very happy to get their lost daughter back after 10 long years. They threw huge parties all in the name of Emma. Emma who thought she was an orphan couldn't thank God enough. She was still in disbelief. Bella was overjoyed to know that she has an elder sister.

“I can now finally say that I have two daughters,” said the proud Father.
