A Night To Remember

 Diya was excited about the forthcoming trip to Mysore. She was officially going to attend the housewarming function of a cousin. But it was going to be a secret rendezvous with Akshay.

Diya was already married and had a kid when she joined Akshay's office. He was her senior at work. Akshay was married too. Initially, they were just cordial to each other.

During an office trip, Diya discovered that she and Akshay shared a lot of common interests. Akshay found himself admiring her intelligence and how well she articulated her thoughts. Diya was floored by his sense of humour. What started as a harmless interaction soon developed into an irresistible attraction.

Many a time Akshay found himself sharing his family problems with Diya who always lent a sympathetic ear. Diya knew she was venturing into forbidden territory. After all, she was married though not happily. It was an arranged marriage. Her husband Gaurav came from a conservative family and had patriarchal views. He never treated her as an equal partner and was always condescending. Diya soon found herself drifting away from him. Gaurav only lusted for her body and didn't appeal to her higher senses.

Akshay was himself in a bad marriage. Diya seemed the anchor that he desperately needed. Diya found herself falling for Akshay who made her feel wonderful and worthy instead of just a sex object. The forbidden fruit is always sweeter and the chemistry between the two was palpable. They both knew they didn't have a future together but they just had to get it out of their system

When Diya told Akshay about her going to Mysore alone, he felt it was a perfect opportunity for them to spend some time together away from the prying eyes. Diya threw all caution to the wind and agreed. Akshay picked her up from the railway station and proceeded towards the hotel. He had chosen a beautiful place on the outskirts of the city.

Once inside the room, they were both in a tearing hurry to discover each other. Passions were ignited and they wanted to live for the moment forgetting all their problems and responsibilities. Diya for the first time found herself being turned on. It was a union of not just bodies but souls. After the heated lovemaking session, they spent hours talking. Diya was sure she didn't want to separate her kid from Gaurav who was a good father. Akshay had filed for divorce but it would take a long time.

They spent the night knowing fully well that they would go on their separate paths tomorrow. Destiny had brought them together probably to give them an experience that they would forever cherish without any guilt.

Cut to the present

It has been 25 years since the eventful night. Diya continues to stay with her husband and her daughter is on the verge of getting married. Akshay got divorced and moved on. They are no longer in touch with each other for years. Diya and Akshay sometimes in a moment of melancholy recall the night...... the night they found true love. 

People come into our lives for a reason, for a season or a lifetime. Akshay and Diya met each for a reason.......to experience what it is to be truly loved and cherished.

Let us not judge them.
