When Will You Come?
When Will You Come?
You have not come until now.
The first ray has already shone,
The first bird has already sung.
I'm still waiting past dawn,
And you have not come till now.
When will you show your face?
I can't recall the last I saw
Of your faint smile, your hazel eyes.
They are gone - the apples I brought,
And you have not come till now.
Did you only exist in my dreams?
My mind is ill at ease.
You have evaded my wistful glance.
I have sat here, twiddling my thumbs,
And you have not come till now.
We could have spent the daylight here,
Under the shade of this magnolia tree.
The petals drift above my head -
Reminders of who we were to be,
And you have not come till now.
I wore my best gossamer gown,
But it is all muddy now!
My only companion is a songbird,
But he is about to fly into the sky,
And you have not come till now.
Ah! There you are!
Or are you not who I seek?
No, it is a shadow, a trick,
Cast by the afternoon sun.
And you have not come till now.
Now I must turn back to face this predicament.
You have put me in a quandary-
I have lost faith, I have lost love.
The sun has set, and the stars have shown,
And you have not come till now.
