The Shadows Of Sadness
The Shadows Of Sadness
I look at the front page of the newspaper
A murder, a bombing, a swindle.
On further pages, I read about rape, domestic violence dowry death.
A silent question enters my mind.
Is this our world?
Are we ever free from violence?
Is this a Damocles sword hanging over our heads?
I see the obituary page.
The dead faces stare back at me.
Then just below the dead faces', I see, the,
Photo of a young smiling boy, announcing,
His fifth happy birthday, wishing him joy.
From family, friends, and relatives.
Now for the dead, I have no sympathy, for,
They are no more a part of this sickness.
But in those happy smiling face;
Ready to walk into a violent world,
That awaits his footsteps, I can see,
The gathering shadows of sadness.
