On Fireflies
On Fireflies
Fireflies that lit up your dark skies,
Wish to turn home now,
Tired they shake,
As dawn arrives to obliterate,
Swirling around, falling in circles,
To find meaning in their tiny existence,
Some have lost their wings,
Others have lost the light itself,
Withering away, they keep flying,
Death itself, they keep defying…
Fireflies that lit up your dark skies,
Wish to turn home now…
In love and passion they gave it all,
But echoes of praise went unheard,
Below the cruel nectar of nature their visions blurred,
A momentary bliss,
While being swallowed in bits…
Fireflies that lit up your dark skies,
Wish to turn home now,
Instead they lie beside their dead comrades on the ground,
And burn themselves away, for one last time…
To let the world know, as they depart,
That storms go still beneath their scars.
In Japanese culture, Fireflies symbolize the departed souls, often of heroes, or soldiers who have died in war.
