Nascent Hope

A warm greeting, with a joyful smile,

Enough to remove all worries for a while!

Your cheerful nature lightens up the mood,

As I feel a tiny bud of love slowly unhood.

The days are spent well, time and again,

Checking the phone every now and then,

Hoping a text from you, as the excitement thrives...

My heart skipping a beat when it finally arrives!

But on the outside I act indifferent, like a cold iron cast,

Never letting my guard down, being wary of the past.

Vying in a battle of heart against brain,

Because I'm afraid to be vulnerable again..

Afraid to let loose my emotions,

Afraid to live up to your expectations,

Afraid to lose you due to my insecurities,

And to scar myself with our fond memories...

Yet, deep down somewhere,

I long for the warmth and care.

Like a freezing hand in a woolen glove,

Because it's beautiful to fall in love !

I dream of kissing you on the cheek,

While holding you in my arms, beside the old creek...

Amidst drizzling snowflakes, light as feather,

With a promise to grow old together.

Maybe the new morn will clear the doubt,

Maybe the seed of love will again sprout.

The troubled past will no longer be a threat,

And we'll walk together into the sunset.
