Lovelorn

You had me with your tender words

Because you knew I always fell for words.

And you also told me about beautiful dreams

Because you knew how much I loved fantasies.

You talked about emotions and nature with honesty.

Because you got to see the vulnerable side of me.

So you made me think that you were in love with me

Because you knew I loved you deeply.

Then one day when I was crying fearful that we won't work

You said, my love, it'll work but only if you wait and love.

Because you knew I was an optimist, you left me there waiting

I for one thought you'd come although the stars told nothing

Because I trusted you more than my own gut feeling

Because I thought you'll be the one to save me

So I cupped my tears with faith in your words

Only to know one day that you never loved me

So now how do I forget about those sleepless nights

When I couldn't sleep because of the tears in my eyes

How do I bring back those moments of joy and laughter

When I should have laughed but deep down I was crying

And how do I tell myself the truth that I wish I never knew

That you will never love me however much I love you!

So I'll write this poetry as a reminder so I always know

That I loved someone who didn't know the magic of words
