John

John

A happy boy and a merry boy,

A helpful boy, a hearty boy is John.

Smiles he gives - a playful boy,

And all smiles is he, our john!

But meets a fate that all men meet,

(Your smiles will be missed dear John)

In walks a girl with a smile too sweet,

And falls in love, poor John.

Cursed is love, so sleep won't come,

And no food satiates the heart.

Happy John- a despairing lover is become

With thoughts of her beauty apart.

"Lovely as Venus, graceful as flowers,

God with his own hands sculpted thee,

Shining and unattainable as the stars,

Ah! is this love ?" is all that thinks he.

But either Cupid forgot to strike her,

Or in jest only had struck him.

So, while he with mite craved her,

She fell in love and married Jim.

Now forlorn, the once merry John

-Shall he ever find his joy again? -

Can't sleep, nor drink, nor eat, poor John,

Will he forever live with the pain?

Cursing fate he walks the lonely road.

It (or chance) carries a lonely girl (oh John!)

Again will you carry love's load ?

Did Cupid strike again, dear John ?

And what is love but a maze -

"Oh! my, where is this beauty from?

All I want is a favoured gaze,

Ah! is this love?"- again thinks Mr. John.
