It had always been our dream,

To live in a house by a stream.

Been five years since we got married.

Many places and houses we tried,

None seemed to be perfect.

Till our eyes, on the house atop a hill set.

No sooner did we enter the house, than we saw our Future happy and bright.

Splendid views, half a dozen rooms and it all seemed right.

Every day passed like being in a dream.

Nights, were unusual, for we could always hear a scream.

The large tree beside the house with its branches long and green.

Could be from any corner of the house, clearly seen.

Things had been a bit strange over the last few days.

Windows banged in the dead of the night.

Things were broken in mysterious ways.

Even the green tree had dried up overnight

Spreading its claw-like branches to form a horrid sight.

We were told of a spirit that lived in the house.

Mostly peaceful, but violent when aroused.

Tap, tap, tap, the sound of dripping water echoed through the house.

Tom! I called, to hear no reply from my husband.

Where could he be? What might have happened?

The eerie winds howled through the windows,

But the tapping sound could still be heard.

Slowly, I entered room after room looking for my mate.

Worried crazy, ‘Where has he gone so late?’

The basement made my heart stop its beat.

Dead Tom was hanging from the ceiling, his wrists cut.

Blood dripping from his fingers into a hollow vessel tap, tap, tap.

As if this sight wasn’t enough scary,

A bloody message on the wall said

‘I told you not to disturb me!’
