Indian Music

Indian Music

Music, to me, may come from the Aeolian harp-

Our ‘ragas’ bring winds of change in manner usurp

To sing in full-throated ease is the epitome

Of a style, of the elder generation long since gone

To me, music is the food for thought and quiet,

Gentle serenity slowly descends on nerves put on a riot.

Strings of the sitar and the sarod create mesmerising effect,

Singers, worthy of note, sing songs devoid of any defect.

Music embalms us and throws up to the upper realm,

Birdsongs are also music, perched up as they are, at the helm.

Morning ragas are different from evening ones,

They are our tradition and culture, otherwise we are nones.

Indian classical music is so far apart from the Western,

It reverberates in our souls, we belong to the hemisphere Eastern.

Music resonates in my mind as nothing else does,

Indian music shall remain forever, hence depart ye counterparts, without a fuss!!
