A LETTER TO THE FUTURE GENERATIONS

“Once Beautiful Earth”.

In the Halcyon Days.

Dear Future Generations,

SORRY

Sorry we left you with a mess of a planet,

Sorry we couldn’t spare the chance,

For you to feel the salubrious side of this planet,

The Lungs of the World, the wildlife’s dance.

Those were the times when humans were a part of nature,

And not apart from nature.

Those were the times when animals and plants were considered a part of Mother Nature,

And not our metier.

Those were the times when water = hydrogen + oxygen,

And not hydrogen, oxygen and human litter.

Those were the times when trees reached above our heads for shade,

Instead of today, where we have to reach the trees for shelter.

Those were the times when petrichor wafted into our homes to greet us,

Instead of carbon, smoke and smog to kill us.

And I am extremely sorry, because we burnt it all down...

We pushed animals and plants into extinction’s abyss.

Polluted the air.....

And my heartfelt apologies because,

We had the nerve to call this destruction

PROGRESS.

And all this “PROGRESS”, for money.

We are so foolish even irony laughed at us,

As we spent all our gold to dig out gold.

But it is still not late; OUR error doesn’t become a mistake,

Until WE refuse to correct it.

The Halcyon days can be brought back,

Power of love regained.

Yours truly,Ancestors.

‘A great man once rightfully said,

When all the rivers are poisoned, and all the forests burnt,

That is when man will realize, that he cannot eat money.’
