THRILL OF DETECTIVE FICTION
THRILL OF DETECTIVE FICTION
Willing suspension of disbelief goes along with suspense
Everything appears surreal in the present tense
We’re so thrilled that our senses go insensitive to incense
Detective fiction takes us to another realm – past offence.
The thrill and excitement in reading suspense stories
Are unparalleled – they are matched by movies only, like a line o’ lorries
These books are lined up in my bookshelf as it carries
My dreams, realized and not so, in verses and epistolaries.
Mother Nature also plays hide n’ seek with suspense,
We only have to seek them out with bifocal lens
Sunny days cheer us while nights bring wholesome ends –
To daylong toil, with relaxing sleep which amends.
The element of unreality lies in reading dramatic poems,
Verses that inspire us all to think as well as are love’s totems,
Browning’s Porphyria’s Lover has those suspense elements,
It surprises us with suspense and passionate moments.
Suspense and thrill awe us when we read detective fiction
Because in them, we find these in pairs, in a healthy concoction –
Childhood years and detective stories are cocooned within affection,
Suspense novels are the subconscious of writers – their mirror reflection.
