Hope
Hope
Standing on the balcony of my palace,
I lean against it with a hand on my face.
I close my eyes and think of the promises we made
As I feel the sun kiss the cheek you claimed.
A frown mars my heart as I remember the fight,
My father had had you in his sight.
He saw you spinning me on the grass,
Had seen the spark in my eyes as I laughed.
He came over with his eyes filled with poison
Took me away from your arms, into the prison.
Looked me up in the place he called home,
Where I am standing waiting on your prompt.
Something white caught my eye,
Flying freely in the blue sky.
The bird landed in front of me.
A paper rolled and stuck to its knee.
I took it and read what it said.
There was an assurance for ahead.
“Love, remember be strong,
I am not a prince but, am also not wrong.
I coming to steal you for myself,
Just make sure that you prepare yourself.”
Holding the paper to my chest,
My soul sighed with delight.
Hope fluttered all around inside,
You had not yet lost your pride.
