Hard-work and Manipulation (25 Nov)

Hard-work and Manipulation (25 Nov)

The two sons of Hiral,

Named Dhaval and Viral,

Were as different to each other,

As fire and water

They grew up together,

As most brothers do,

Learning from their surroundings,

Absorbing things like glue

Their books were same,

And so were their teachers,

The only thing that differed,

Was their individual characters

While Dhaval was honest,

And modest, bordering prude,

Viral was cunning, though negligent,

And spoke words unfiltered and rude

Dhaval worked hard,

And burned the midnight oil,

Studying till his eyes gave up,

So hard did he toil

Viral, meanwhile, observed the world,

Learning from the way people spoke to each other,

Most days he spent wandering in the market,

People warned him his future was in the gutter

Soon, results were clear for everyone to see,

Dhaval cracked IAS and became a collector,

No one knew what Viral did,

Or what was his new adventure

Years passed,

And the brothers grew apart,

Dhaval married and achieved great success,

His career rose like a growth chart

Society exemplified the two brothers,

Displaying the value of hard work,

One brother had achieved all highs,

While the other was a schmuck

Tides rise and tides fall,

Some are high and some are low,

No one stays on the top for long,

Misfortune comes for each steady and slow

Dhaval found himself caught amidst a storm,

Being blamed for a bridge that recently fell,

Killed thousands it did, while injuring many,

The successful brother was thrown in a cell

As he awaited his final sentence,

Dhaval thought back on all the years he spent,

Studying and working harder than all,

Only to be made a scapegoat to fall

To his surprise, his charges were dropped,

Set free he was, and reinstated to his post,

A letter awaited him at his desk,

With no name nor sign, as if left by a ghost

Congratulations on your freedom, the letter said,

Enjoy it while you can,

I had to dig long and deep,

To save your neck from the lawman

You forgot me when you climbed high,

But I did not forget,

For brotherly love was a formality to you,

Which made me quite upset

Successful you became in the eyes of others,

And I would hate it being tarnished,

Real success is not what you achieved,

I hope this lesson leaves you replenished

There is no success in being the top-slave,

At the end of the day you answer to a master,

Masters are the one who manipulate and control,

To achieve their dreams faster
