Confessions
I said it all today,
The things I should have kept away
Ten years of hidden ache,
For my heart could no longer bear the weight.
Why do I feel so helpless now,
So small before his face?
He has a life,
While I lie broken in mine.
Why did I knock upon his door,
When I had already lost it all?
I wish my words had never found their way,
I wish my heart had chosen silence to stay.
But perhaps it is over now,
Perhaps there is nothing left to say.
We are so far from his city now,
And farther still in every way.
There was no bond, no promise, no tie between us,
Nothing that was ever truly ours.
And now there is nothing left in me
No words, no dreams, no place to hide.
All my dreams are shattered today,
Scattered like ashes in the air.
What a strange, painful evening this became
I finally confessed my heart…
And found nothing there….
