Broken
Broken
I said yes when you proposed to me,
If only I knew where it was headed,
I mistook those hungry glances for earnest looks,
Angry eyes, taunt muscles, throbbing veins,
I chalked it all up to mood swings,
That resounding slap you gave me,
Over something so trivial,
I thought it was just a one-time thing,
That punch in the face over the burnt meal,
Was concealed from the eyes of society,
Those welt marks on my back,
Were thought of as a mistake,
Bruises marring my body,
Are enough proof of the monster you are,
Yet I hoped against hope,
That you would turn over new leaf,
But when you forced me that night,
You broke me from inside.
