Being Beautiful!!
Being Beautiful!!
Her childhood
Was a sweet one.
The society taught her
That beauty was temporary
And that only hardwork
Mattered in a world like ours.
She became prettier
As she grew up,
He liked her smile, her eyes
The man who lived in the next street.
Much older to her,
She refused his marriage proposal.
"I want to study and nothing more. " Said she.
Enraged, by her reply
He returned home silently.
Another beautiful morning,
Little did she know
What awaited her
And her life would change.
On the way to college,
He flung acid at her.
It burned her inside and out.
Disfigured her face,
Deformed her identity.
Lost her consciousness.
She yelled with pain.
Felt like her body
Was being ripped apart.
As the doctors
Poured water over her body.
After months of surgery,
She glanced herself in the mirror
She cried and cried.
The society which taught her
That beauty is temporary
Was now ostracising her.
She wanted to give up this fight,
The fight of standing up for herself
But the thought of her parents
And letting the culprits free,
Was her reason not to.
Her unbreakable determination
To fight for herself
Was what kept her alive.
She began to
Uncover her face.
She decided not to let
The ordeal define
The trajectory of her life.
No, she is not a victim
But a survivor.
A brave one, to say.
Hope and will power,
Kept her going.
She rose from ashes,
Although the scars never healed.
Today she is,
A beacon of inspiration.
"He threw acid on my face,
Not on my dreams." Said she.
And yes, she is beautiful
