A Joke

Nobody understands

Nobody ever will

 

Try telling them

And not long before you will

 

Be accused of self pity

Deride you they still

 

Tell them a joke

And laugh they will not

 

Tell them of your troubles

They will laugh without a thought

 

Make you a Joker

Call you by that name

 

Knowing not even a little

Of what beast do they tame

 

A beast tamed or not

Knows not pity and regret

 

Feed him your filth

And warmth you expect !

 

There’s joke burning inside

There’s urge to express

 

About a friend that I loved

And how luckily we met

 

But I won’t just tell you

For I know you won’t just get

 

Oh! How silly and funny

Such is the nature of tragedy

 

How dark and divine

Is this bloody comedy !
