Love Story

Dear Kirti,

I will treasure the letter I received from you, the first one you ever wrote. You beautifully expressed your love for me, making my dream come true. I must admit that I was attracted towards you, right from the first time I saw you in our office, reporting to the job. Your tentative and shy demeanor, your graceful appearance, dignified dressing and everything about you had a magnetic pull. The more I tried to be away from this attraction, more I got into it.

Over the time the attraction towards you developed into love as I remained helpless observer. Love is not just a liking or a physical attraction for a woman but more of a commitment of lifelong bonding. Love also has many facets to it, the love between mother and child, love between siblings, love between man and a woman and many more. An individual can be at peace and harmony in life only if he is able to do justice to all his loved ones and manage their love.

My mother is my world and to me any individual is only next to her. We lost my father very early in life when I was just few months old and she brought me up fighting against all the difficulties, bravely. Even now she is battling and unfortunately the opponent is none other than Cancer, which is in advanced stage. I cannot do much for her other than provide her the best treatment and comfort. In her last days I want her to be peaceful.

I felt that I will not be fair if, in these circumstances, I let you step into my life, my home. You will not be able to accept this harsh reality. Every woman has high expectations and dreams about the life after marriage. A woman like you deserves a happy married life. Life is full of possibilities, and I wish that you have best of them in store.

 Ananth felt relieved after handing over the letter to Kirthi the next morning, in the office. She ran into the ladies rest room and eagerly read it. With tears flowing down her cheeks, she rushed into Ananth’s cabin, held him by hand and pulled him into a vacant meeting room, unmindful of the entire staff watching them in curiosity. She said,” I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts without any hesitation, upfront. I am also glad that you have placed my happiness above your love for me. I would have not liked it if you relegated your mother to second position after the marriage. I would love to be a daughter, she never had, to your mother in her last days, if it is OK for you and your mother and I am ready to share your responsibility as a Partner.” Ananth was overwhelmed by joy and took Kirthi into his arms lovingly. They came out of the room, only to be welcomed by their colleagues with thunderous clasp.
