Broken Promise

'How is the sky, Sid?' message from Aditi flashes on Sid's mobile screen.

'Usual, nothing significant, still no moon......" replied Sid.

'Why do you talk about Moon every night?'

'Moon is very important in my life, I came across you on that full moon night.'

'You are crazy, I wanted to see the full moon and my son brought me on the rooftop of this hospital. You were wandering there like a werewolf, I was afraid to see a man out there. My son left me for a while and you stuck to me like a most learned man.'

'I'm one Aditi......'

'Always boasting about things you don't have.....still wandering on the rooftop?'

'Yes, my daily life routine, the hospital authority always object but they know they can't stop a lunatic man like me.'

'Yes, you are lunatic and made me one as well. Doctors want me to sleep all the night but here I'm answering your crazy messages for hours.'

'It's hardly midnight and you are complaining about stealing your sleep.'

'Yes, I'm complaining; a fool has stolen my sleep........'

'Come-on Aditi; I never forced you to answer my messages, you can sleep anytime you wish.'

'You, ignorant fool, no one can force me to do things against my wish. I don't know but I always wait for your messages, they give me new life.'

'Don't start this life thing now, it is just like dry sand which is slipping from our hands. Doctors say I'm very sick, all my vital organs have stopped working, this is just a matter of time now.......'

'Mister Sid we've promised each other not to discuss again. The doctors have given up on me and now they are sending me back to my home to die peacefully.'

'Now you are breaking the promise.......'

'Sorry Sid, can you come to meet me tomorrow......I want to see you at least once before leaving this sad place.'

'Sure Aditi, I promise I'll come to meet you tomorrow morning, I'll force my nurse to push my wheelchair to the reception area where I could see you. Will you talk to me when I come to meet you?'

'No, how come it is possible, I'll be with my family......'

'No problem, we'll bade bye anyhow......okay my nurse has come to take me; she'll not allow to use my mobile now, she'll not go till I sleep. Bye Aditi.'

'Bye Sid.... GN.'

It was a dull morning; Aditi's eyes were darting here and there to find Sid. She never fell in love with anybody after the sad demise of her husband. But this man Sid was weird, he had a strange aura of attraction. Aditi couldn't escape from his charm and fell in an unusual love with Sid. But he was nowhere. Her sons were completing formalities of her discharge from the hospital and she was looking for Sid.

Sid didn't come but his nurse was in the big reception area looking for someone.

Aditi looked at her son and called the nurse, "Hey sister, please come here."

"Yes, ma'am what can I do for you?" asked the petite nurse.

"You look after mister Sid, where is he?" asked Aditi in a hurry.

"Mister Sid died last night, his daughter came here to get his body, she's completed all the formalities, now the body will be given to her." said the nurse indicating a stretcher being pulled by two men.

Aditi looked at the stretcher and the body covered by white sheet.

"You broke your promise mister Sid, you were supposed to bade me bye today but don't worry.......I'll join you soon......." murmured Aditi with her tearful eyes.
