Age is just a number!!!

“Youth is the gift of nature but age is a work of art, we are only as old as we feel.”

Whenever I see my mom, I always think that she is the best example of this quote. She is running 82, living all alone after my father's demise, but some of her habits and positivity towards life made her fully occupied and independent.

My mom, a bag of emotions. I fail to see myself apart from her influence and impact. What I'm today, all because of her hard work and sacrifices.

She is a precious gift from god to me, a beautiful feeling, can’t be expressed with few words.

She is quite an early riser. Always begins her day with 45 minutes doing yoga followed by a half an hour walk. Hardly once or twice in a year she is unable to go for a walk, that too due to weather conditions or some sickness.

After a shower and daily pooja, she makes a cup of tea for herself. Holding a cup of tea in one hand and the TV remote in another she starts browsing the news channels. At this age, she is still very up-to-date. Her favourite topics are politics, mythology, and sports.

Yes, sports, that to cricket. Everybody in our relations is surprised to see her passion for cricket.

Once the world cup was going on, and there was a problem with her sports channels. Whenever I visited her place she complained.

"See, now the world cup is going to start in few a days, where will I watch the match, your brother is very lazy, so many times I told him, select the channels list but, every time he makes false promise"

Being residing in the same sector, I keep going to her place.

Almost on every visit, I consoled her.

"Don't worry, mom, he will do it before the world cup starts."

"No, I know him, he will forget again, he didn't even call me yesterday."

My brother, though very caring and loving, sometimes being very busy forgets to call her daily. He is posted in Mumbai and living there along with his family.

And the worst thing happened when the world cup started, and the problem still existed.

"Dekha, I told you earlier, he is very careless, last night he called me and said, I will do it before the match starts."

Somehow, I was successful to install a sports channel on her mobile.

The cheerfulness on her face bought relief and a smile on my face, at least I was able to do something for her.

Later on, that day in the evening my brother has solved the problem of sports channels.

I respect her passion for cricket.

She never complained of her loneliness, she occupied herself with some good habits.

One more unique passion I saw in her, she is having the habit of solving Hindi crossword puzzle. Daily after gulping the whole newspaper, she spends almost one hour solving the crossword. Her Hindi vocabulary is excellent. In the evening whenever we visit her place, after serving drinks and eatables, she brings her Hindi paper with a pencil, she wants to solve some left words with our help, which she was unable to solve.

How energetic is she, at this stage of life, she is still having the curiosity to know new things. She is computer illiterate but can handle smartphone perfectly, having her WhatsApp and Facebook accounts, which she is managing very smartly.

Whenever I saw her, I think, just because someone is at a certain age doesn't mean he or she fits a certain status.

When the glowing face of a young lady, turned full of cute wrinkles and when used to stand erect like a pillar, she began to walk slightly with a limp being arthritis patient, just happened in front of me and I didn't even feel. Meanwhile, she turned 50, 60, and now she is above 80. Thank God, at this age, despite a few ailments, she is still very smart and active.

I have seen her for the last 4/5 years how she is managing her bank accounts and filing an income tax return every year on her own. She used to visit different banks, collected pension statements and doing all paperwork before submitting papers to IT lawyers.

IT return is just one example, she is doing everything which a home demands, from a little bit of renovation to bill payments to tackling with tenants, etc, on her own.

I admire and salute her not because she is my mom but because she has proved, Age is just a number.

Despite having a positive approach towards life, she always worried about us, maybe all mothers are like this.

To me, age is a matter of feeling not of years. If we stop counting our years only then we can enjoy every moment of life.

I'm proud of my mom and I wish to age like her.
