Perception
Perception
And if you think it's all about
Having a sweet tooth;
Rossogolla, sandesh, nalen gur
Then scratch the epidermis,
Dig deeper beyond the subcutaneous;
Your perception will change,
As you peel off many layers,
That goes to make up the persona,
Of the Bengali woman.
Don't ever be mislead by
Her quiet demeanour;
If push comes to shove,
Can raise quite a rukus,
Shattering the myths,
Held against her.
Don't be mislead by
Her looks 'Plain Jane';
For she downplays her assets,
Has no pretensions.
Need be, can put others to shade
With her classy tastes.
Don't be mislead by
Her lack of participation,
Can bring down the house,
When put to the test.
Her confidence in self,
Cannot be shaken.
Her white red bordered saree,
Red bindi, white and red bangles,
Red sindur shining in her parting;
Is just not all about being a married woman,
But also one who can hold her own,
In the company of men.
And if your perception
Still remains unchanged;
Crawl under the skin
Of a Bengali woman;
You'll find her roots
Are deeply embedded,
To the bedrock of
Her Indianness!
