Colin just stood looking at her in awe. He had never seen a more beautiful wolf. She was massive for a female wolf. Her fur was silver white except for a small crescent moon shape in the middle of her forehead that was black. Her eyes were almost translucent, and looked up at him, waiting for him to change. Colin stretched out his hand and the wolf in front of him sniffed it before butting at it with her head.

“You are stunning,” he said, letting his hand caress the top of her head. Her fur was soft and thick.

The wolf shook her body, and the fur looked like liquid silver. Colin’s breath caught in his chest. He was brought back by the wolf in front of him, yipping at him. She was impatient to meet his wolf. He laughed and changed.

Colin stood as his black wolf. He was a solid raven with eyes of gold. Colin’s wolf strutted up to the silver wolf, taking in her scent. He was bigger than her, but not by much. His wolf relished because his mate was so beautiful and strong.

They spent some time sniffing each other, play nipping and buffing heads. Colin could feel that their wolves connected just as well as they did in their human form. Things were simpler for the wolfs. Suddenly Adina’s wolf bit him in his hind leg. It didn’t hurt or break the skin. It was not an act of aggression but one of playfulness. As he spun around to face her, she quickly jumped behind him again, trying to bite his other hind leg. This time, he could avoid the bite. The silver wolf seemed amused and, with a short bark, she sped off into the woods.

Colin’s wolf got excited. It was time for a bit of hunting. His wolf started running after the silver wolf. To his surprise, he had to strain to catch up with her so he could keep her in his view. Usually most wolfs were no match to his for speed, but Adina’s wolf gave him a run for his money. His wolf loved it. A challenge was more exciting that anything.

They spent hours running in the forest, chasing each other, testing each other’s limits. But eventually Colin herded her to where they had stashed their clothes. It was almost time for the pack meeting and they needed to collect themselves. They both changed into their human form and when their eyes met, they closed the distance between them and kissed.

Colin knew they both felt how the run had strengthened their connection. Another piece of the puzzle had snapped into place. He felt the kiss deepen and his hand roamed Adina’s naked body. She finally pushed him away.

“Pack meeting,” she said, sounding out of breath.

Colin took a big breath and started putting on his clothes. His mood had improved immensely since the meeting in his office. He still had a hard time wrapping his head around how Amy had behaved. He knew he needed to make sure that the pack knew Adina was their intended luna even though the courtship didn’t follow the traditional standard.

If things had gone as they usually went after finding once mate, they would have already marked each other and the luna ceremony would probably had been over with. It would be hard to explain this without explaining everything around Adina.

He looked over to his mate as she finished dressing and couldn’t help but smile as he reached out to pull her to his side. She was perfect for him, for his pack. He placed a kiss on top of her head as they walked towards the pack house.

Once they got there, the members of the pack had already started arriving. The big dining room had been transformed, so instead of tables, it had rows of chairs in it. All facing the small, raised platform at the back wall. Colin could see Mateo, Julia, Jason, and Sean already standing on the platform. Adina had called them their family, and it was true. Adina and he headed over to them. They stood talking for a while as members of the pack slowly filled the room.

When Colin was certain that the members of the pack that weren’t on duty were in the room, he turned to Adina.

“Ready, babe?” he asked. She smiled and nodded. He looked at Sean and got a nod from him.

Colin wrapped his arm around Adina’s waist. The habit relaxed him. They then stepped up onto the platform together, followed by the others.

“Welcome” Colin started.

He didn’t need to strain his voice. The room was built for pack meetings and wolves had excellent hearing.

“Most of you might already know why I have asked you to join us here today. I want to introduce you to two new members of our pack. The first is my mate Adina, our new luna,” as he introduced her, he looked down at her with a smile and the pack cheered loudly.

Colin could see a light flush on Adina’s cheeks as she smiled at the pack.

“The second member is Sean,” Colin said, indicating the man on the opposite side of Adina.

“You already know that I have named him my pack brother and as such, I know you will all treat him with respect.”

There was a soft murmur in the gathered pack. Some of them had seen Sean train and whispered about his excellent performance.

“You know Adina and Sean came to us seeking protection. This is why Adina’s and my courtship is unusual. To keep both our luna and our pack safe, Adina and me will make some sacrifices and take things at a slower pace than usual. This is not a sign that we are not committed to each other or to the pack. On the contrary, it is a testimony that we prioritize our pack. I expect you all to treat Adina as your luna. Anyone disrespecting her will face the full penalty for disrespecting their luna.”

At these words, the pack became visibly enraged. Who would disrespect Adina? they wondered? By the shift in the mood, Colin knew that the pack already saw Adina as their luna and he felt pride for his pack. They were a powerful pack with a good community.

“Sean will help me protect the luna. When I cannot be by her side, he will. In this capacity, his authority is to be seen as my own. In his role as Adina’s protector, he is only surpassed by me,” Colin continued.

“Now that all the serious matters are done with, I’m also going to announce that there will be a mating and luna coronation ceremony held shortly. We will also combine it with Sean’s acceptance ceremony. We will set the date later this week.”

At this, there was cheering in the crowd. Partly because that would mean that they would get an official luna, but mostly because it meant that there would be a big party.

“Questions?” Colin asked, but none stood up, so he ended the meeting.

The pack descended on Adina and Sean to wish them welcome. Everyone wanted a chance to greet the new luna and after Colin had alluded that Adina had been disrespected, everyone was showing their support. Colin watched Adina as she interacted with the pack. He wanted to make sure she didn’t get overwhelmed. They weren’t a small pack. But she took to her role without skipping a beat.

She talked to everyone, asked questions, and seemed genuinely interested in the answers. She took time for the kids and knelt down to their level and laughed with them. Colin looked at her and realized why a luna was so important to a pack. She was more approachable than he as an alpha was. He knew his pack didn’t fear him, but when they came to him, it was with a purpose, or with an issue. With Adina, they seemed to just want to talk, to share their views on things.

Colin had let Adina wonder around on her own, always staying close but not keeping physical contact with her. It was so that she could get some time with the pack members without him hovering. But it made him feel uneasy, almost nervous, to not have her right next to him.

He decided that he had been patient enough and went over to her, where she stood talking to a family, and placed his arm around her. She looked up at him briefly and smiled before turning back and giving the woman in front of them her full attention. The man and Colin exchanged a couple of words, and Colin felt at ease again.
