Adina’s POW

She could feel Colin relaxing and putting some of his weight on her. He rested his forehead against her and for a while, they stayed that way. Catching their breath and slowly coming back to reality. Adina felt amazing, and she gently ran her hands up and down Colin’s back, making shivers run down his body.

He raised his head, placing a loving kiss on her lips and rolling off her, not letting go of her, so she ended up laying half on top of his chest. He wrapped one arm around her, letting the other softly wander over her body.

They lay there in their own thoughts, feeling satisfied and relaxed.

“Are you hungry?” Colin asked after a while.

“No,” Adina said, not wanting to move, but her stomach growled. Making Adina hide her blushing face against Colin’s chest, feeling how he laughed.

“Your body disagrees babe, we should head down and see if we can find some food,” he chuckled.

“Hmm, and we need to see if Julia is still awake so you can apologise to her,” Adina agreed.

“What have I done?” Colin said, surprised. Adina rolled her eyes at him.

“You know she is afraid of you, and I don’t think it helped that you growled like a beast at her when she came to get us for dinner,” Adina pointed out.

“Oh, that,” Colin said and Adina saw him blushing.

“You are cute,” she said, placing a kiss on his nose and before he realised what she said, she had jumped out of bed and was headed into the bathroom.

When she came out after refreshing herself, she realized the room was a bit of a disaster. There were pieces of clothing flung around the room. Colin was not in bed, probably looking for something to wear. She started picking up clothes. Her shirt was a wright off. Her jeans and bra looked okay, but when she located her panties, she realized they would have to go as well.

“No chance of survival,” she muttered to herself as she looked at them.

“I would say I was sorry, but I would be lying,” Colin said, emerging from the closet with a grin.

“No worry honey,” Adina said with a shrug when she realized something. “You have already gotten me a couple of replacements,” she said happily.

“Really?” he said.

“Oh yes, madame Belle was really helpful when I was there today” Adina smiled. It took Colin a couple of seconds to place the name. When he did, he looked extremely happy.

“Really? I’m happy to hear that, mind showing me?” he asked wiggling his eyebrows, making Adina laugh.

“Food first, I’m starving,” she said. “I just need some clothes,” she added.

“Here,” Colin said, tossing a hoodie to her. “Use that” Adina held it up to her face and smelled it. It smelled like Colin.

“Sure” she smiled and went to look for some panties to use under her jeans.

When she came back out, Colin was dressed almost the same way as her in jeans and a hoodie. The difference was that his hoodie fit him, whilst the one she had one more looked like a dress. He held out an arm, and she stepped right into his embrace. He bent down and kissed her.

“I like when you smell like me,” he said, wrapping his arm around her waist as they walked downstairs.

“I like it too, it feels safe,” Adina agreed. The common areas were quiet and abandoned. Adina took up her phone and looked at the time. Almost one at night. Had they been occupied for that long? She was amazed.

Colin opened the fridge and laughed as he reached in and pulled out two plates full of food, wrapped in saranwrap, with a note on each one. As he placed them on the counter, Adina read the notes. Colin’s carb recharge one read, the other was the same, but with Adina’s name replacing Colin’s.

Adina smiled and looked at Colin as he placed the two plates in microwaves and started heating the food. She got some fruit juice and glasses and placed them at the breakfast bar. Colin had gotten silverware and stood waiting for the microwave to ping. Adina smiled at him.

“What?” he asked.

“This feels amazingly ordinary,” she said, walking over to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and giving him a gentle kiss. He placed his hands on her waist and drew her closer.

“It is ordinary, just two wolves preparing food after making love,” he said, placing a kiss on top of her head.

“I like the ordinary,” she said, listening to the soft hum of the microwaves.

“You are one strange woman. Most people long for the extraordinary,” he chuckled.

“The extraordinary is strongly overappreciated,” she said, resting her head on his chest.

They just stood there until two pings came from the microwaves. Then they took their food and sat down to eat. As if they had agreed on it, they let the conversation revolve around light things. No talk about what waited for them tomorrow or down the line. It was a small bubble of ordinary as they washed the dishes and went upstairs.

Adina woke up the next morning feeling better than she ever had. She was wrapped up in Colin’s arms with her head on his shoulder. She was sore from the previous night. They had made love twice more after they had come back from the kitchen, and they hadn’t fallen asleep until it was almost morning.

She realised the thing that had woken her up was the alarm from her phone. Adinatried to reach it to turn it off, but Colin had her in a tight grip. She tried to wiggle to get closer to it.

“That feels amazing babe,” Colin said sleepily, and Adina stopped wiggling.

“Colin, I can’t reach my phone,” she said. Instead of releasing her from his grip, he stretched one of his arms and grabbed it for her.

As he handed it to her, he kissed her neck. Adina tried to remember why she had set the alarm. She realized Cernack and alpha Aries were coming and looked at the time. Almost a quarter past seven.

“Fuck,” she said, trying to get out of bed.

“My thought exactly,” Colin said, pulling her closer and letting one hand caress its way up her naked leg.

“Let go your sex-maniac, they will be here soon. I need to shower,” Adina said, pushing Colin away.

“Who?” Colin said, confused.

“Cernack and alpha Aries,” she replied, feeling his grip loosen. She was out of the bed and heading into the bathroom.

“If we shower together, we will save time,” he said happily from bed, studying her naked body.

“We won’t,” she said before heading into the bathroom. “I won’t be able to keep my hands off you,” the last words were said just as the door closed and she wasn’t sure Colin had heard them.

She showered in record time. Opening the door to show Colin he could come in. She started brushing her teeth and fixing her hair at the same time. Colin came in with the biggest smile on his face.

“Can’t keep your hands off me?” he happily asked as he stepped into the shower. He had heard alright she realized with a sigh.

“Male pride,” she mumbled with the toothbrush in her mouth.

“What was that, babe?” Colin asked from the shower.

“Nothing honey,” she said as she raised out to get some clothes on. When she got into the walk-in, she felt guilty about not having had the time to unpack all her new clothes. They were still sitting in bags all over her side of the closet. Maybe this afternoon, she thought.

She decided on a new pair of matching panties and bra in black lace that made her feel sexy and confident. Then she picked out a pair of black dress pants and a bright green knitted sweater. That made her feel dressed up, but not overly so. She put on light makeup and some earrings before going into the bedroom. Colin stood in just a towel. It looked like he had mind linked with someone.

“You look stunning,” he told Adina as he had finished his conversation.

“Thank you,” she said with a smile.

“Aries will be here in about five minutes and Cernack in about ten,” he told her on his way to put on clothes.

Adina’s mind linked Sean to make sure he was up. When Colin was ready, he gave her a quick kiss before going downstairs together. They met up with Sean and just made it outside to see the alpha’s car drive up to the pack house. Adina raised her hand in a greeting. As alpha Aries stepped out of his car, Cernack came driving along the road.

All five of them greeted each other before Colin showed them inside and up to his office. They sat down on the sofas in the middle of the room. Adina sat next to Colin, with his arm around her shoulder, on one sofa. On the other sofa sat alpha Aries and Cernack. Sean has seated himself in the armchair closest to Adina. Colin started by retelling his conversation with alpha Dean.

“His pack was on top of our list for this cycle,” Cernack told them.

“You never presented them to us,” Adina said in surprise.

“No, at the last moment we realized that alpha Dean would be away for a longer period

starting in December. As that is a security risk, we postponed presenting the option until the next cycle,“ he explained.

Adina could feel Colin tense up. She knew why. If they had went to alpha Dean’s pack, she and Colin would never have met. The thought made her tens up as well. Colin placed a kiss on top of her head, which made them both relax a bit. Adina could see that both men across from them noticed the kiss.

Alpha Aries looked amused, Cernack looked worried. Adina didn’t like the look from Cernack. She knew it came from the same place as her worries about being mated. But she didn’t like other people getting involved. Colin was her mate, and that should be respected. Any issues, she would deal with them.

“Did anyone tell alpha Dean he was on the short list?” Sean asked.

“No, you know how we do it. We pick three or four candidate packs and bring them to you, and then Adina decides which one you will go to. Then we reach out to that group and make the arrangements.” Cernack explained.

Adina could see Colin turn his head towards her. This was news to him. She turned towards him and nodded at the question he hadn’t asked, but that she knew he had. Yes, it had been her decision to come here, and she had chosen it before others. That earned her another kiss on top of her head.

“Most alphas that come from an alpha line know about me and how we move around,” Adina said. “It’s not surprising that he knows about me. What is surprising is that he is trying to contact me and that he has reached out to Colin to do it.” She continued.

“Cernack, I want you to call him and ask about it. We can assume Colin isn’t the only alpha he has contacted. If he asks why you are calling, tell him an alpha reached out to him after they got his call.” Cernack nodded.

“Please do it now and put the call on speaker. We need to hear his response, but he should not know that we are here,” Adina concluded.

“As you wish,” Cernack agreed and pulled out his phone.

Colin handed him the phone number that alpha Dean had given him last night and after he had dialled it, he put the phone on speaker. The room was dead silent as the phone rang.

“Dean Rover,” a man’s voice answered.

“Alpha Dean, I’m glad I could get hold of you. My name is Cernack. Does that say anything to you?” Cernack replied.

There was a moment of silence.

“I have heard your name before. You are a member of the White rose pack,” alpha Dean answered.

“Indeed, I am. I have been contacted by another alpha claiming you have been asking questions about the Rose.” Colin looked at Adina and she could see he was confused. She pointed toward herself to show that the Rose was another of her titles. He nodded.

“Eh yes,” alpha Dean didn’t sound as confident when he answered.

“Why?” Cernack’s voice was stern.

“I have information that she needs,” the alpha said.

“Fine, tell me and I’ll make sure she will get it.”

“No, I need to tell her, in person,” alpha Dean replied.

“That won’t be possible. She is not in the country at the moment”

“Our pack witch had a premonition, and the Rose needs to hear it. I can only tell her in person, there is no other way. If you tell me where she is, I will go to her,” Adina thought about this.

A premonition was never to be taken lightly, and maybe something like that was highly private. Maybe alpha Dean didn’t want to let others know about it. Either way, she needed to take this seriously, she nodded to Cernack.

“Very well, I will arrange something. It will take a couple of days. Please be ready to leave on short notice,” Cernack said out loud.

“Thank you”

“Before you go, I’m going to assume that I won’t be getting calls from any more alphas,” Cernack said.

“You have my word,” alpha Dean said solemnly. Cernack ended the call, and they all looked at each other.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Colin asked Adina.

“No, but I think we need to know what he has to say. You could hear in his voice that he feels that this is urgent and if so, we need to know so we can assess if the information he has is valuable. Cernack, you said that the Order is planning something big.” Adina said.

“That is what we think is happening. The activity that we trace back to them has increased. We think something is coming.” Cernack agreed.

“It may be possible that the prophecy is related to that. It may give us an upper hand. We need that info,” Adina was determined.

“I think you are correct. We need all the help we can get with this.” Sean agreed.

Colin didn’t look happy, but he nodded. Adina took his hand and intertwined her fingers with his.

“Then let’s plan this so it will be as low a risk for Adina as possible. We need to cover all possibilities. I’m not letting her walk into a situation where we don’t have control.” Colin said.

“Agreed,” Sean said seriously. They started discussing different options, and they were locked in Colin’s office for most of the day.

When they finally had the basis of a plan in place, they paused and called for refreshments. Coffee, tea and sandwiches were brought up for them. As they were sitting in silence eating, Adina looked at Cernack.

“I’m going to inform Mateo and Jason about everything if Colin agrees,” she informed him. Cernack almost choked on his tea.

“My lady, only alphas have the right to this information,” Cernack objected. Adina shrugged her shoulders.

“I wasn’t asking Cernack, I was telling you as a curtesy. You like to keep track of who knows, so I’m telling you. I’m assuming Colin will join our little expedition.” she said.

“Of course,” Colin injected.

“I’m not letting the pack be guarded by someone who doesn’t know what they are guarding it from. Besides, I trust them and with the circumstances, it’s only logical. What do you say, Colin?” Adina asked.

Colin smiled at her. She knew he understood. This was her way of taking the first tentative steps toward staying in the pack permanently.

“They would both lay down their life for you, babe. I have absolute trust in them, and I think you are correct, they need to know.” he started, looking at her.

“I would not trust her secret to just anyone.” He continued looking at Cernack with a serious look. Cernack didn’t look impressed.

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” he said, turning to Adina.

“I appreciate your input, Cernack. But the decision has already been made,” she said, leaving no place to question her.

They decided that two weeks would be enough to plan and execute the meeting securely. The coming two weeks were full of planning, organizing, and making sure things would go their way. Adina, Colin and Sean had a sit down with Mateo, Jason, and Julia. Adina had included Julia as well. She didn’t want Mateo to have to hide this from his mate.

They took it well and Adina felt it was like a weight was lifted from her. She always felt like her secret made it hard to get close to people, it was always in the background. Making her feel like she was keeping things from her friends. But now, for the first time, she could be open and honest with people outside of Sean and the alphas of the pack she was staying in. It was a new and nice experience.

Adina and Colin tried spending as much time together as they could. They grew closer and Adina found it increasingly harder to justify leaving after thirteen months. She loved Colin and she could feel that he loved her.

But still, she had the fear of the past that clung to her, making it hard for her to fully let him in. Adina also felt bad that they hadn’t marked each other yet. Usually, werewolves marked their mates within the first days of meeting. But as rejection was so much worse after one had marked each other, Adina didn’t want them to go there yet.

She still had one foot outside the door, ready to run if it meant that Colin and his pack would be safer that way. She would do whatever it took for Colin to be safe.

Adina also spent a lot of time with Julia. The two of them had fast become best friends. As Julia was an intermediator between the pack and the human world, she didn’t have too many she could talk about in the pack about her work.

Werewolves rarely cared about, or understood, the human world. Adina, on the other hand, had more contact with it than most and she enjoyed exchanging ideas with Julia. They usually hung out at the coffee shop. If it was a quiet day, Andy and Joonas would join them for a chat. On those days Sean would join them, otherwise he sat at his own table, reading, to give Adina and Julia some space.

Both Adina and Sean liked their life in the Black Moon pack. They felt at home and for the first time in a long time they relaxed, feeling they weren’t all alone.
