From the day Neelu and Arun became parents, it was their favorite phase of life striking the right chord. Whole day they would spend happily enjoying the various acts of Sameer, their kid. Time rolled, Sameer started to grow into a smart boy.

But as our kids grow, they get exposed to many new variants in life, some useful some hazardous.

As Sameer turned into a teenager, the hormones started making him fugitive, rebellious and tougher to be controlled. Arun dint liked the way Sameer was growing into. As Arun tried to control Sameer’s action, the result was always negative. Both father and Son’s relationship was hitting the wrong track. But in the house full of chaos, only one person was holding her silence and that was Neelu. She knew that its not easy to be a friend of your kid. She tried to calm down Arun many times, but all went in vain.

She was sure that they need to change the approach or method in dealing with their kid. Many times she tried talking to Sameer about being polite and more dutiful towards his father. But Sameer always had a long complaint list against Arun.

Every other day the house was on fire because of father and son clash. They were behaving like real enemies. Sometimes study, sometimes friends, pocket money, ripped jeans, hairstyle, mobile addiction, staying out late and so on… it was an endless list.

After few years Sameer left for his studies. After many days the house was so silent. But this silence was killing Neelu. She really missed Sameer. And there was no one she could open her feelings to. Arun was never interested in talking about Sameer. Days passed on.

Sameer was back home for Diwali. Neelu was so happy today. She almost cooked everything liked by Sameer. From his favourite panner cutlet, choley, spicy Gobhi and cucumber raita.

Arun and Sameer hardly had any conversation. After Diwali dinner, Neelu cleaned the table and went to get the desert. Suddenly she heard a big noise.

As she rushed to the living room, she was shocked to see Sameer’s mobile broken on the floor. After few arguments she found out the matter. Arun has checked Sameer’s mobile secretly and had a list of questions to be answered. Why was he a part of some creepy group? why he had a girl friend to commit life time with? Why he cheated the notes from someone and so on. In the heated argument Arun threw the phone away.

It was not just the phone broken into pieces, also the bond between the two shattered into pieces.

Sameer left early next morning, promising Neelu to never return back. Neelu just kept thinking over the horrible day she had. Many years went by Sameer never came home. He only called Neelu and met her outside home.

Years passed, Arun never spoke a word about Sameer, as if he has completely forgotten his own son.

Today Sameer will visit home after 10 years, as Neelu is about to take her last breath. From the dilated pupil of her eyes, she watched Sameer. He looked very handsome in formal clothes, just like a dedicated employee of some firm, which he was now. As Sameer hold Neelu’s hand tightly into his hands, she whispered, “take care of your father, he is alone, broken and void and above all she misses you beta.” As Neelu closed her eyes forever, Sameer felt so heavy and helpless.

A week passed, Sameer approached Arun, “ Papa, if you feel ok, you can come and stay with me, please check my mobile if you wish too. I have no creepy group anymore. I am so sorry. Just wish Maa to be here.” Arun looked into watery eyes of Sameer, and hugged him and cried.

Both of them cried for long, together they were shedding tears for Neelu, tears for being so far away from each other, tears for not listening to Neelu and tears for missing this warm touch of each other.

The house was silent. But the ears gushed with sounds Of Neelu as they both lit a lamp in front of Neelu’s picture. Together they said, wish she could be here to see us together.
