Where The Emotions Rule - Chapter 1

The night loomed over and the darkness overcame the dwindling sunlight. The clocked ticked with an ignorant sound, reminding everyone of the passing time. The struggling moonlight seeped into a room, outlining the silhouette of a adolescent teen on the ground. She looked through the glass and stared at the glowing mass in midst of the depressing night. The girl of around fifteen was enclosed by mentally sturdy walls, one that whispered horrible secrets and dwindled her confidence. The event which occurred that morning slowly made the walls taller and more suffocating. She leaned on the wall adjacent to the window and stroke her arms in order to warm herself.

The night sky's eternal inky black colour was disrupted by a beam of ray in the shape of a tail as it tore through the gloomy environment. She chuckled lowly as she reminisced her past habit

'Miss Will, will the shooting stars fulfil my request?' the girl asked to an elder women. The latter gazed adoringly at the younger one and said, 'Of course darling; Shooting stars are the messengers of god. They soar through the sky, hear the people's wishes and convey them to god.'

'Look its starting!' another young voice said.

In the little girl's eyes was an innocence that knew not what the destiny had planned for her. In the little girl's eyes was a reticent curiosity for her eyes gleamed and glistened like the tails of the shooting stars.

'I wish for a family...'

God did gift her a family but not of loved ones; but one that harboured strangers. Maybe she didn't make an explicit request or maybe that was the best god could offer to her. Another meteor pricked through the atmosphere as she decided to make a new request. 'I want a world where emotions can be easily expressed; when these fretters of silence don't burden down and shut my heart; A world where the emotions rule...'

With these thoughts she laid down on her bed. However, beyond the blind of her window was a shimmering glow that faded away with the passing time and a faint yet benevolent murmuring silently faded out along with the moonset, with the light dominating the darkness.

The morning sky glistened with an unfamiliar glow, one that spoke of a pristine start. The trees swayed and clashed with each other and the wind blew with an disconcerting assurance. Olivia stepped out her house with a fragile smile. On the contrary. her neighbourhood felt like a new place. It no longer echoed with the sound of barking dogs that alarmed the boys to control their bicycling speed; The echo of the whistling pressure cooker subdued and so did the cries of the newborn baby. All the couple fights subdued into silence and so did the bickering of the inquisitive ladies. Many men walked down the footpath with varied expression among which gloom was rather prominent.

Olivia walked down the cobble path in solitude and peace until an acquaintance of hers greeted her with a bright expression.

"Good Morning Liv! Its rather hot today, isn't it?" the girl said, shifting her flicks behind the ear as her slick raven black hair glistened under the sun's scorching gaze. "Hi...? Yeah, it's really hot," Liv replied, making a sudden shift in her pace. The girl was dressed in black skinny jeans along with baggy white T-shirt. A blue cardigan acted as the cherry on the cake. As soon as the familiar entrance of the school presented itself Infront of her, she hung her head downwards, finding a sudden interest in the floor. When the gates jogged out of her vision, her movements lost energy as a familiar pair of shoes halted her.

"Hello Jaquelle," Olivia greeted her, as her hands tightly clutched her backpack.

"Wait Olivia!" Jaquelle yelled as her two best friends stood beside her, folding their arms to create an intimidating image. Jaquelle's pale face held an unspoken hesitation.

A minute passed, then two and then a few uncountable seconds after Olivia let her thoughts flow into audible expression, "Did you need anything Jaquelle?" Jaquelle's demeanor became stiff. "Look, I need a perfect attendance to pass this year so if you would excuse me, I need to attend my class," Olivia said, feeling uncomfortable with the unrequired attention she received from the gossiping crowd.

Olivia felt a tug on her arm as she looked at the source of the force only to find Jaquelle pulling her.

"I am so sorry Olivia; Please forgive me for my behaviour..."

Jaquelle apologized for a mistake that even Olivia didn't know. "Jaquelle, you slipped and hit your head, didn't you?" Olivia said, trying to break free from her grasp. "No, I didn't Olivia! Please can we forget about the past and be friends. I promise-" Jaquelle was cut short.

"What is all this commotion about?" a hoarse high-pitched voice reverberated, making all the curiosity cower down. The Principal, Mr Leeward strode forward with a demeanor that radiated authority. "Back to your classes!" he said. Hurried footsteps scurried across the uneven ground as the noise subdued but not spreading tea.

The lectures passed by with a turtle's walk. However, today was a peculiar day. It was peculiar because all the attention was diverted towards a normal girl. A girl who wore a knee-length ocean blue skirt along with an orchid coloured tee with a white cardigan. Olivia's mind was in a disconcerted state. She was never the one to score the highest or the popular kid. Her reflexes compelled her palm to press onto her back, checking for an unwanted paper being stuck on it.
