The Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice

A tiny snowflake fell from the void of darkness, hidden above the sheets of dark, stormy clouds, as the lousy sun rose over the horizon on the day of the winter solstice. It was a doubtfully intimidating scenery indeed, but it was no more than a typical winter morning to the inhabitants of that area. The temperature had dropped below the freezing point and the woods were covered with a thin sheet of frost. Many residing animals were in hibernation while others were snuggled in their natural homes. The forest floor was tinted with hues of blue and white. The people of Alaska were used to this phenomenon.

Many children ran outside their houses with colourful sweaters made of thick material, making distorted artwork on the theme of happiness. The snow beneath their feet crunched as they strode forward in excitement. The once-layered snow was shaped into snowmen. Some kids laid down on the snow and started oscillating their arms and legs aggressively. When they were satisfied, they carefully got up and decorated their masterpiece with stones and twigs, not forgetting to add fine details to their snow angel. Playing in the snow was basically hypnotizing. Once you are too engaged in it, you wouldn’t be able to tear your body away from the cold mass. The slanting rays of the sun slightly pierce through the clouds, transforming the evening sky into disputed shades of orange and midnight blue. Every kid, satisfied with their day’s work returned to their homes. The evening was soon engulfed by darkness and the long winter solstice passed by in an imminent truncate interval of time.
