when one path closes
when one path closes
There was a girl named Deepti living in a small village. She harbored a dream of pursuing a BALLB degree and becoming a lawyer. However, considering her family's circumstances, she kept her aspirations in check. She refrained from dreaming big because she knew that while dreaming is easy, the subsequent pain of unfulfilled expectations is far greater. She had witnessed people being defrauded for money and saw how the lives of innocent individuals were devastated as a result. It was these very incidents that ignited her desire to become a lawyer.
She had intended to tell her father one day that she wanted to go away to pursue higher studies—specifically, a BALLB course. However, when she broached the subject, her father dismissed the idea, insisting she complete her degree while staying at home. Unable to find the right words to respond, she fell silent. She felt deeply distressed at the thought of having to set aside her cherished dreams and do something else instead. That night, unable to accept the reality that she might lose her dream, she wept bitterly in her mother's lap. Her mother comforted her, explaining that her father had spoken that way out of concern for her health, noting that she wouldn't be able to manage living in a hostel. "Don't cry, dear," she soothed.
One night, Deepti sat deep in thought, reflecting on the immense pain and hardship her mother had endured for her sake since the day she was born. She wondered if her own life would turn out the same way. Unable to see a way forward , she closed her eyes and began to pray: "Father, You have guided me this far; please continue to lead me forward and help me fulfill my dreams." After the prayer, she felt a sense of relief.
Sitting on her bed, she was watching Instagram Reels related to the legal profession that she had saved. When she spoke to him again at an opportune moment, she tried to understand the real reason behind his decision—wondering if it was due to financial constraints or simply because he did not want her to pursue further studies. Her father explained, "Look, you cannot stay in a hostel for five years." When she asked why, he pointed out her health issues and her tendency to get easily stressed. Understanding his perspective, she stopped arguing with him about the matter. From then on, she began to think strategically. She asked her father, "So, is the problem simply that I cannot stay away for five years?" He confirmed that it was. Accepting this, she went to her room and started looking for an alternative path. After some thought, an idea struck her: she decided to complete a three-year BA course first and then pursue an LLB. She told her mother about her plan to do a BA; later, she gently expressed her desire to complete a degree to her father, while also mentioning that she did not want to upset him. Her father agreed to the plan, not wanting to cause her any distress. She started her BA course, and with that, her true journey began.
