Between Silence and Judgment
Between Silence and Judgment
The words about her comfort zone continued to haunt Sahiti.
No matter how hard she tried, she could not forget them.
Nights became difficult. Sleep no longer came easily, as her mind was filled with endless questions. Was she really afraid of change?
Was she wasting her life by caring too much about what others thought? With each passing day, those questions grew louder. She became quieter than before. Even when surrounded by family and friends, she often found herself lost in thought.
The rumours spreading among her relatives made everything worse. Some believed she lacked ambition.Others claimed she would never achieve anything because she was too afraid to take risks.Every whisper felt like a judgment.Every opinion felt like a burden she was forced to carry.
One evening, unable to handle it any longer, Sahiti called her best friend, Arpita."Can you come over? I need someone to talk to," she said.A few hours later, Arpita arrived. As they sat together, Sahiti finally shared everything she had been holding inside.
"My friends think I never leave my comfort zone. My relatives keep judging me. No matter what I do, it feels like someone always has something negative to say," she admitted.
Arpita listened carefully.
Then she asked, "What do you want for your life, Sahiti?"The question caught her off guard.
For a moment, she remained silent.
Finally, she replied, "I want to live without constantly worrying about what everyone thinks."
Arpita smiled.
"Then start doing that. People will always have opinions. Some will support you. Others will criticize you. You cannot control that. What you can control is whether you allow those opinions to define your life."Those words stayed with Sahiti long after Arpita left.
That night, she sat by her window and reflected on everything.
For years, she had allowed fear and judgment to influence her decisions.Maybe it was time to change. The next morning, she signed up for a writing workshop she had wanted to attend for months but had always avoided because she feared being judged.
As she stood outside the building on the first day, nervousness filled her heart.
Her hands trembled slightly.
For a moment, she considered turning back.
But then she remembered every sleepless night, every doubt, and every opinion that had held her back.Taking a deep breath, she walked inside. The workshop was challenging.Participants were encouraged to share their stories openly. When it was Sahiti's turn, fear returned.
What if people laughed? What if they judged her?
What if everyone proved her fears right? But this time, she chose not to run away.
Gathering her courage, she stood up and read a piece she had written. The room fell silent.
For a few seconds, nobody spoke.Sahiti's heart began to race.Maybe they did not like it.
Maybe she had made a mistake.
Then the instructor slowly started clapping.Soon, others joined in.The room filled with applause.Sahiti stood there in shock. For the first time in years, she felt heard.
After the session ended, a young participant approached her. Tears filled the girl's eyes.
"Can I tell you something?" she asked softly.Sahiti nodded.
The girl hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Everyone says I am afraid to leave my comfort zone. They think I am weak because I don't speak much."Sahiti froze.
Those were almost the exact words that had haunted her for months. The girl continued.
"When you spoke about fear and judgment, it felt like you were telling my story. For the first time, I felt understood."
For a moment, Sahiti could not find any words.
She remembered all the sleepless nights.
All the tears she had hidden.
All the moments she had questioned her worth. She had spent months believing that her struggles were signs of weakness. But standing there, she realized something unexpected.
The pain she had tried so hard to hide had become a source of strength for someone else.
The words that once wounded her had helped another person heal.
As the girl walked away with a smile, Sahiti felt tears gathering in her own eyes. Not because she was hurt. But because she finally understood something she had never seen before.
Sometimes, the battles we fight in silence become the very stories that give others the courage to keep going. As the days passed, Sahiti became more confident. She started expressing her opinions without fear. She stopped seeking approval from everyone around her.
For the first time in a long while, she felt free. When the workshop finally ended, Sahiti stepped outside and looked at the evening sky.The rumours had not disappeared.People still talked.People still judged.
But their words no longer had power over her.
A gentle smile appeared on her face. She finally understood that courage is not the absence of fear.It is choosing to move forward despite it.
Life is not meant to be spent explaining yourself to everyone. It is meant to be lived with purpose, confidence, and belief in yourself.
As she walked forward, Sahiti realized that true freedom begins the moment you stop living for the approval of others and start living for yourself. The road ahead was still uncertain.
But for the first time, she was not afraid of it.Because she had discovered something far more important than the approval of others. She had found her own voice.
And perhaps, through her story, she had helped someone else find theirs.
And that made all the difference.
..Moral of the story..
"Courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving forward despite it."
