Between Silence and Judgment

To an outsider, Sahiti’s life appeared quite ordinary. Yet, deep within, she harbored countless thoughts and doubts that no one else knew about.
As she grew older, her responsibilities increased as well. Her family and friends were her entire world. Often, her desires and thoughts remained locked away within her own mind.
         One day, she went out for lunch with her friends. In the midst of their conversation, a friend jokingly remarked,"You always stay within your comfort zone." "Have you ever tried to find out what's happening in the outside world?" she was asked.To everyone else, it seemed like a laughing matter. But even though Sahiti appeared to laugh it off, those words stayed with her.
She couldn't sleep that night.
"Have I really just stayed within my comfort zone?"That question wouldn't leave her mind.
She reflected on how she had confined her world to college, family, and the strict rules of her home.In truth, she too had a desire to see new places and gain new experiences. But circumstances always seemed to hold her back.
     A few days later, another issue arose in her life.One day, she learned something from her cousin. Sahiti was shocked to hear that some relatives were speaking ill of her and misinterpreting her character.
For a few moments, she was at a loss for words."Why are they saying things like that?" she asked quietly."Apparently, they saw you talking to a guy. Someone twisted the story and portrayed it differently," her cousin explained.Sahiti remained silent upon hearing this."He is my friend's older brother. We were just having a casual conversation, that's all." "Is it really so wrong to talk to a boy?" she asked with a sense of hurt.It felt as though the anguish weighing on her heart had only deepened that day.
On one hand, there were the words her friend had spoken...
On the other, there were the people passing judgment without knowing the truth about her...
These two factors made her reflect deeply.
     That was when Sahiti made a decision.She resolved that, from then on, she would live her life according to her own beliefs and dreams, rather than by the opinions of others.She realized that building her own life was far more important than constantly having to explain herself.Little did she know then just how profoundly that decision would transform her life.
