This story is based on incidents that date back to the 70s. Those times were different in the sense that people maintained relationships for a long time and sincerely. Community living was more prevalent and all residents of the locality almost knew most of the details of each other and their families. You can call it a concept of extended family. If the people were engaged in Business then it was a combined effort. In this backdrop let us read a funny, simple and real story that may be alluring.    Delhi, the magnificent City with its rich culture and tradition has its own speciality. The language, food habits, and living style are so profound and interesting. Munimji the local merchant had a textile showroom that sold cotton textile and ready-to-wear garments. His Shop was located in a busy market in the centre of the City and was making a good profit. He was a typical character who was hard working and at the same time a miser. He had a partner named Hari Om who was at loggerheads with Munimji most of the time. When their mood was okay both of them used to have a good time together which was rare and most of the time they used to keep grumbling about one another. This was the regular feature that all the residents of the locality knew and they used to. enjoy this tiff between the two.

On one such bright and beautiful day Hari Om came to the Shop in the morning dressed up in a new, shining salwar kameez and kurta. His kurta pocket had the stamp of the brand of the textile with which the kurta was made. Those days it was a fashion statement you see. People used to display the brand of the textile for that extra mileage. He even had a colourful handkerchief in his pocket. He was invited for lunch by someone known to him. Before going there he was there at the Shop to check the days business and the account. He checked his watch and it was time for him to leave for the lunch party. The minute he got up from his seat Munimji called at him Saying ' Hari Om why don't you do me a favour? You just cut 2 big pieces of cotton cloth from the bundle and hand it over to Kakaji who stays in the next lane. It is very urgent " On hearing this Hari Om got irritated. He shouted at Munimji saying' Why didn't you tell me this a few minutes early? You never let go any chance to trouble me. If you had told this to me when I was sitting idle I would have done this cutting early and would have started for lunch a bit before time."His irritation was evident on his face. Munimji said " Oh don't bother I forgot to tell you ".This caused more irritation and blabbering something Hariom cut the two cloth pieces as ordered by Munimji and proceeded for his lunch program. As he was walking with about 2 kg of weight(the cloth ordered was a long bits)he was called out by someone from the back."Hari omji, How are you? Wait I am at your back".With some weight on his shoulder, and irritation in his mind he turned to see who was calling him only to find the owner of a neighbouring shop of the same locality. Oh no this fellow he is another irritating person like Munimji thought Hari Om. He was Badri. He came in quick steps near to Hari Om who was walking slowly. He immediately got down to questioning."Where are you carrying this bundle? who ordered this? What is the weight ? How much are you selling this for? and so on.He was not bothered about how Hari Om was feeling at that time.He even commented as to why HariOm was walking so slow with that bundle.

Now Hari Om could no longer tolerate anything else, He immediately asked Badri to hold the cloth bundle for sometime so that he would tie his sandal belts. In a Jiffy he shifted the bundle to Badri, acted as if he was tying the belt and started walking ahead. Now it was Badris turn to get irritated. Hari Om started asking Badri how he was doing in Business, how much of profit he was making, how much he is saving etc.and all the while Badri was showing his displeasure. Well what else he could do. He was getting back whatever he had been doing just a few minutes ago to Hari Om.

Finally they reached Kaka stores where this textile pieces had to be delivered. As Hari Om turned back to thank Badri he saw him walking ahead quickly without even turning back. This brought smile on HariOm's face and he thought only when the weight is transferred the carrier will understand how difficult it is to carry it. Until then everything seems so light and easy isn't it? Similarly in life too until you stand in someone else's place or in their shoes everything seems so easy and simple. Only when you experience that in real no clarity comes in mind and matter.
