Universal Love

Amu was coloring while her mother was watching a TV serial at home. Her mother was fully engrossed in the serial and Amu couldn't help but register what was going on. It started working unconsciously in her mind though she couldn't understand it much.

But love being a universal language, anybody can understand it. Of course, so could 10 yr old Amu. She couldn't stop herself from relating the serial to her own life, rather her dear friend Srishti's life.

The serial in question was "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein". Amu really was impressed and affected by the love showered by Ishima on Ruhi, though being a stepmother.

So, why does it affect her? Yes, for her dear friend Shrishti. Shrishti's father was planning to remarry and get a new mom for her.

The whole concept of a father getting married itself is new to these kids. Unfortunately, Shrishti's mom had passed away a few years back. Amu and her family were very nice to Shrishti and always lent a helping hand to her.

But when Shrishti's father told her that he was going to get a new mom for her, she got scared and was struggling to come to terms with the new fact.

Unfortunately, kids grow up listening to stories like Cinderella and Snow White or Hansel and Gretel where they are only exposed to bad stepmoms. These have affected Shrishti's mind and she is skeptical of the whole idea of stepmoms.

Amu's mother has tried to explain both to Amu and Shrishti, the unrealistic aspects of these fairy tales. Still, kids being kids, it's been impressed on their tender minds.

But now, from what little Amu could understand from the serial, she feels that not all stepmothers are bad. There can be moms like Ishima too who loves the neighboring child Ruhi even before becoming her mom. Though Amu still couldn't understand why Ruhi's real mom didn't want to live with them.

Amu's confidence grew and she asks her mom if she would explain it to Shrishti when she comes home the next.

Amu gets glad that she could make Shrishti feel better and gain the confidence to deal with the new person in her life. She felt Shrishti could also share a beautiful relationship with her new mom just as Ishima and Ruhi share in "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein".

Feeling relaxed and relieved, Amu has a great weekend and is looking forward to meeting Shrishti.
