The Three Windows
The Three Windows
Today is Sunday, a holiday. All the children are in the park. They are having fun. They are all playing, running about, and enjoying the day.
Mansi is ill and in bed. She is not happy! She cannot go out and play. Mansi puts her face in her pillow and cries. Mansi's mother comes and sits beside her.
Mansi's mother says, 'Don't be sad, my
dear. Soon you will be well."
'I want to play, Mum,' says Mansi.
'Don't worry, you can play, when you are better,' says Mother. 'What can I do, Mum? I am bored,' says Mansi.
You have three windows,' says Mother. 'If you look out of them, each will have a story to tell you. Look!'
Mansi looks out of the first window next to her bed. She can see her garden. There is a big mango tree on which a bird has made a nest. The bird has a worm in her beak.
The bird flies to the nest. Her two baby birds are in the nest. She gives them the worm to eat.
'I have never seen that nest before,' says Mansi. 'I will watch the babies grow.'
Then Mansi looks out of the second window. She can see the marketplace. There are many shops out there. She watches the people going in and out of the shops buying things.
Mansi then looks out of the third window. She can see the road. Cars, buses, and trucks go by at great speed. An old man is trying to cross the road but he cannot. The policeman helps him. The old man thanks him.
Mansi's mother brings a glass of hot milk and cake for her. Mansi loves cake. She smiles and tells her mother, 'Thank you. Each window of my room tells a story, Mum! I enjoyed it a lot.
