A Picnic To Remember
A Picnic To Remember
Akshay, Shashank, and Vedika were going to Pookode Lake for a picnic. They rode on their bicycles to the picnic spot. They carried their picnic lunch in small bags which they kept on the carriers of their bicycles.
Pookode Lake was a beautiful picnic spot. There were lots of green grass and huge trees to climb. The best part, however, was all the animals that could be seen roaming about the lake and in the adjoining forest. The forest officer and his team took care of the animals.
The cows and goats could be seen eating hay. The deer ran about. The rabbits jumped across the fields and the squirrels ran from one tree to another collecting nuts. Parrots were feeding their young ones with worms. The sparrows were pecking grains. There were lovely flowers all around and beautiful butterflies.
The children sat under a big banyan tree and took out their lunch bags. Unwrapping the sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and cold lemonade made them hungry, but they decided to see the animals first. They fed the cows and the goats with grass and ran after the butterflies. The children then climbed the trees. They had a wonderful time. All the running about made them feel very hot so they decided to go for a swim in the lake.
The forest officer and team kept a watch on the children as they swam. They waded in the water, splashed water at each other and enjoyed themselves.
While they were getting out of the lake, Vedika saw that a troop of monkeys had opened their picnic bags and had started eating their delicious lunch.
The children started shouting at the monkeys. However, the monkeys were busy eating and enjoying the picnic lunch. The forest officer came running with his whistle and baton. He shooed away the monkeys. However, the monkeys had already finished off the picnic lunch and the children felt really sad Poor children! They were nearly in tears. How hungry they were! The forest officer invited the children to his house for a hot meal. The children rejoiced and went with the forest officer. They were treated to delicious upma and cold coffee. They thanked the forest officer and rode back home. It was indeed a picnic to remember.
