The Story of Shabbir: A Journey from Struggles to Triumph

Shabbir’s life began in the shadows of hardship, but it was his heart’s relentless passion that ultimately illuminated his path. Born into a world where struggle was a constant companion, he lost his father when he was just five years old. Raised by his mother, a woman whose strength became the foundation of his existence, Shabbir grew up learning that love and perseverance could overcome any obstacle.

His childhood was far from easy. At the age of 16, Shabbir found himself trapped in the turbulent waves of a troubled life, constantly seeking a way out. Despite the challenges, he refused to give up. His first job was as a milk delivery boy, earning a meager 600 rupees a month. But even in the face of adversity, he found moments of joy—like the day he bought his mother a saree with his hard-earned money. It was his way of saying thank you for the endless sacrifices she had made to keep their family afloat.

Shabbir dreamed of education and the freedom that knowledge brings, but the harsh reality of life meant he had to work to survive. While still in school, he juggled a job as a storekeeper in a small engineering firm at the age of 18. The journey wasn’t easy, but he was determined to stand on his own two feet.

At the age of 20, he moved on to work in a call center while continuing his studies. Earning 3,500 rupees as a part-time customer executive, he never let go of his educational aspirations. Slowly, he built himself up—completing his college education, then securing a full-time job in a travel firm. For four years, he worked his way up from a 10,000-rupee salary to eventually earning 14,000 rupees. But despite the steady rise in his career, something deep inside always pulled him in another direction.

It was during coffee breaks with his close friend Mandar, a constant motivator in his life, that Shabbir found himself venting about his dissatisfaction with the corporate world. They would talk for hours about how they both longed to do something that ignited their souls. And for Shabbir, that something was tattoo art.

Even as a child, Shabbir had been drawn to art and creativity. He wasn’t the student who sat in class, taking notes. Instead, he scribbled on the back pages of his books, drawing random sketches and doodles. He even found himself sketching on the hands of his classmates—much to the displeasure of his teachers. One teacher, in particular, would often reprimand him for this, but Shabbir couldn’t stop. Art was in his blood.

His passion for tattoos was something that had always been a part of him, though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly when it all began. The idea of becoming a tattoo artist was his dream, but it always felt out of reach. Then, one day, he saw an advertisement in the newspaper: “Tattoo Artist Assistant Needed.” It was his chance, but when he went to apply, the owner of the studio almost turned him away. After all, Shabbir had a stable job in a call center, earning 45,000 rupees a month. Why would he leave all that for an uncertain future as an apprentice in a tattoo studio?

But Shabbir’s heart wasn’t swayed. He knew he had to take the leap, and so, he chose the path of his dreams. His mother was hesitant. She wanted him to stay in the safe job he had worked so hard to secure. But his brother, always his pillar of support, pushed him to follow his heart. “Go ahead, Shabbir. Take the risk,” he told him. “This is your chance to do what you love.”

And so, in 2017, Shabbir made the bold decision to leave his stable job and join Victor’s Dynamic Tattoo Studio as an apprentice. It was a life-changing moment, but then came an unexpected obstacle: the COVID-19 pandemic. The world shut down, and so did the tattoo studio. It was a turning point in Shabbir’s life—he faced the hard decision of either finding another job or taking the plunge and starting his own studio.

In 2020, Shabbir chose the latter. With nothing but dreams and determination, he opened his own tattoo studio, Tattoo Savvy, in the midst of a global crisis. He had no savings, but his brother and a few close friends lent him money to set up shop. He took a loan, scraped together everything he could, and opened his doors. With a rent of just 12,000 rupees, his journey had only just begun.

The name “Tattoo Savvy” was no coincidence. Shabbir had always envisioned calling his studio this name, inspired by his love for the Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a manifestation of his dreams, a symbol of his journey, and the anchor that would guide him through the storm.

The first few months were tough, with no clients and no steady income. But word of mouth began to spread, and slowly but surely, Shabbir’s reputation grew. People from all over the country—and even from abroad—came to him for his work. Today, Tattoo Savvy stands proudly in the heart of Airoli, a thriving studio with a loyal following and clients from as far as France.

Shabbir’s story is one of unwavering determination, a journey that proves that even the most humble beginnings can lead to extraordinary success. He started with nothing but a dream, a loan from family and friends, and a heart full of hope. And now, he stands as an inspiration to anyone who has ever doubted their potential.

His advice to anyone with a dream is simple yet profound: “Take that first step. It’s the hardest, but it’s the milestone in itself. The journey may be uncertain, but without that first step, there will be no progress. Believe in yourself, and keep moving forward, no matter how tough the road may seem.”

Shabbir’s journey is far from over. With a passion for travel and exploration, he continues to push boundaries, seeking new adventures that fuel his creativity. But no matter where life takes him, he knows one thing for sure: he took the first step, and there’s no turning back now.
